Wrexham owner Rob McElhenney wrote ‘It’s Always Sunny’ love letter to Eagles that featured Jason Kelce and Tom Brady Hail Mary

It’s always sunny in New Orleans.

Or at least that’s what Wrexham owner and Philadelphia Eagles super-fan Rob McElhenney is hoping for come Super Bowl LIX.

His beloved Eagles have a tall task if they want to win their second Super Bowl in franchise history.

They have to takedown Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

If they do, expect McElhenney’s hit sitcom, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, to have a future episode centered on the Eagles Super Bowl victory.

After all, that’s what happened the last time the Eagles raised the Lombardi Trophy, when they took down Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII.

McElhenney let his creative juices and writing prowess flow into somewhat of a love letter as part of a two-part episode that featured former Eagles Jason Kelce and Beau Allen, capturing the Eagles’ first Super Bowl in franchise history.

But not without the help of Charlie Day’s character, Charlie Kelly.

In the two-part episode, Charlie was left behind to ‘defend the bar’, Paddy’s Pub, while the rest of the gang attended the game in person.

Charlie’s superstitious rituals led to him doing a variety of odd acts, such as drinking paint and getting himself stuck in a steel bear trap, all in the name of an Eagles victory.

Eventually, he hallucinates Kelce and Allen, as the game is winding down to its final seconds, with Brady about to launch a Hail Mary.

That is when Kelce imparts his wisdom on Charlie, telling him that fan’s superstitions actually matter.

“Every single thing that every fan does, at home or at the stadium, makes a direct impact in the game,” Kelce told Charlie.

As Brady drops back to heave one last pass into the end zone, Charlie sticks his foot back into the bear trap.

The pass falls incomplete.

Eagles win and the gang goes nuts in celebration.

It is one of the most memorable episodes in the sitcom’s long history.

McElhenney will no doubt be hoping he has another chance to write an episode on another Eagles Super Bowl victory, but it won’t be easy.

First they had to go through Brady, now they have to go through Mahomes.

But if they do, expect another all-time great episode, that may feature Saquon Barkley or A.J. Brown this time around.

While McElhenney already co-owns Wrexham with fellow Hollywood man, Ryan Reynolds, that hasn’t stopped him from possibly expanding his portfolio.

Last summer, there were rumors about Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie possibly selling a stake in the Philadelphia franchise, and that immediately caught McElhenney’s attention.

“Uh… Mr Lurie…. Check your dms pls,” the actor wrote on X.

If McElhenney ever owns a piece of the Eagles one day, expect more crossover between the athletes and actors.

Especially if the city of Philadelphia gets Super Bowl banner number two.
