Wolves vs Aston Villa predictions

New Wolves’ boss Vitor Pereira had an immediate impact at Molineux, picking up seven points from his first three matches in charge.

Pereira led his team to a 3-0 win over Leicester City in his first game in the dugout. A 2-0 Boxing Day win over Manchester United followed, and then the Old Gold secured a point with a 2-2 draw away at Tottenham in their final match of 2024.

Since then, things have started to go wrong. Four defeats have followed, the last of which was at home against Arsenal last Saturday.

In fairness to Pereira, the four losses have been against top six opposition. The rot started with a 3-0 home loss to Nottingham Forest. That was followed by defeats away to Newcastle (3-0) and Chelsea (3-1), with the home defeat to the Gunners the final match in that sequence.

History is repeating itself at Molineux. Under the unfortunate Gary O’Neil, Wolves started the season with a run of fixtures against Arsenal, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Liverpool.

They are four games into a run of fixtures against the same six teams, albeit in a slightly different running order. Meaning after Villa, they face Arne Slot’s Liverpool at Anfield.

The current run of results has left Wolves in the bottom three. All they can do is try and get through the next two games as best they can and hope the damage isn’t too lasting for the remainder of the season.

Aston Villa will make the short trip to Molineux full of confidence after their 4-2 win over Celtic in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Villans have just finished eighth in the Champions League, meaning automatic qualification for the Round of 16. And probably more importantly, no European nights for the next month.

Villa has punched above their weight in Europe. They finished above Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and PSG in the Champions League group.

But at home, things could be going better in the Premier League, where the Claret and Blue are outside of the top four and struggling to mount a challenge to qualify for the Champions League again next season.

Villa are five matches unbeaten domestically. The problem is they have only won two of the five, drawing the other three.

It seems harsh to criticise too much, though. One of the draws was against Arsenal at the Emirates. And Villa has been juggling the Premier League with the Champions League, which is something new to this squad of players.

That said, last Sunday’s 1-1 draw with West Ham at Villa Park will feel like two points dropped. And if Villa is serious about making the top four, they have to start winning these sorts of matches on a more consistent basis.

Wolves vs Aston Villa betting tips

Wolves and Aston Villa meet in a Midlands Derby on Matchday 24 of the Premier League. The betting is tight, with Villa the favourites. You can read our Wolves vs Villa betting tips below:

Aston Villa to win

With Champions League qualification achieved, Villa can now focus more on the Premier League across the whole of February.

There is an FA Cup 4th Round tie with Spurs on the horizon. And with Unai Emery being such a cup specialist, Villa may well take that competition seriously, even if it is third on third on their list of priorities.

The focus now has to be on the Premier League. Matches against Wolves and Ipswich are coming up in February, and Villa needs to make sure they take maximum points from these fixtures if they want to make the top four again.

We see a Villa team focussed on taking maximum points against their local rivals taking the field on Saturday. And at odds of better than even money, Villa are worth backing to win this one.

⚽ Back Villa to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers at odds of 21/20 with Sky Bet ⚽

Both teams to score

Aston Villa have kept three clean sheets all season. One was in the Erik ten Hag inspired bore fest against Manchester United on Matchday 7. The other two came in the 1-0 wins over Everton and Southampton.

Wolves have failed to score in their last two home matches. They are surely due a goal at Molineux.

Furthermore, the Old Gold has only suffered five shutouts in 23 league matches this season. Two of them were against Arsenal, with the others against Everton, Forest and Newcastle.

With the exception of Everton, only the teams at the top end of the Premier League have prevented Wolves from scoring. And with Villa having conceded 21 goals on the road this season, they are likely to get Wolves back scoring goals at home again.

Morgan Rogers to score or assist

Morgan Rogers is a player that Villa fans have really taken to their hearts this season.

You just can’t keep the guy out of the action. In 31 matches in all competitions, Rogers has scored ten goals, provided five assists and picked up a whopping nine yellow cards.

In his most recent outing, Rogers scored a hat-trick against Celtic in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Rogers is as short as even money to score or assist with some bookmakers . With Casumo, he is 17/10. Those odds can’t be missed.
