Ford Motor Company continues to struggle to fix the cars it recalls. Last week, it had to issue three new recalls because certain vehicles didn’t receive the correct software updates. Now, owners of just over 60,000 cars must return to the dealer again.
The larger recall affects the 2020-2023 Ford Explorer, the 2020-2023 Lincoln Aviator, and the 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair. Ford will resolve the potential issue with the camera system displaying a blue or blank image that occurs when the vehicle is put into reverse or when the 360-degree camera is available.
The second recall Ford issued last week affects the 2021-2024 Bronco Sport and the 2022-2023 Maverick. These vehicles didn’t receive the software update to recalibrate specific modules designed to detect sudden battery degradations, which could prevent the cars from restarting after auto stop/start engages. It could also cause the vehicles to stall while stopping at a low speed.
Ford issued three other minor recalls last week as well. One affects just nine Super Duty pickups with front windows that could pinch fingers.
The other is for 2,290 2021-2022 Ford Edge crossovers and involves another previously botched recall to fix an issue where the backup camera could display a black, white, or discolored image when the driver puts the vehicle in reverse. The third involves 4,721 Escapes that could display an inverted image when in reverse.
FoMoCo has issued 24 recalls in the first 12 weeks of 2025, and these new recall aren’t the first where the automaker has had to recall previously recalled vehicles. Last month, the automaker re-recalled the Mustang for an improper software update that fixes a problem where the steering wheel could randomly oscillate while turning.
The automaker also recalled 10,627 trucks and SUVs in late February, including the F-150, Expedition, Maverick, and Lincoln Navigator, for mishandling a recall designed to fix an issue with the trailer brake controller. These vehicles might not properly apply the brakes when towing a trailer with electric or electric-over-hydraulic brake systems.
