Wednesday racing tips
- MARKET RASEN
1.50: Skyjack Hijack 7/4 (1.5pts)
2.25: Fantastic Lady 2/1 (1.5pts) - WETHERBY
2.10: Hourvari 10/3 (1pt)
Skyjack Hijack
Harbour Lake is Skyjack Hijack’s main market rival by quite a distance to the other rivals, at the time of writing.
He won well ahead of Guard The Moon at Aintree earlier this month following a winless run of over two years.
The favourite on the other hand is a fairly young gelding clearly just getting going.
That said, he faces a steep rise in the weights here of 19lb, as he ran off the same mark in each of his last three races, albeit showing he had more to offer on each run.
He won by such a margin last time out the handicapper has acted accordingly, as he won three races in the matter of two weeks.
Despite the huge rise, he’s still fancied to win as the favourite under Sean Quinlan and deserves siding with again on step up to a Class 2 as it’s that untapped potential that so often prevails.
Fantastic Lady
Then we head to the Mares’ Chase in Listed company for a huge 3m contest featuring Fantastic Lady and Apple Away, along with consistent mares Sacre Coeur and La Renommee.
The latter of which has won five times over fences from just 14 runs along with five second place finishes when chasing.
She beat Sacre Coeur by over seven lengths at Ludlow in October and faced a 10lb rise for the win.
She’s shown she shouldn’t be underestimated in these kind of races placing second in two listed contests last season.
Fantastic Lady surprised a few though when bouncing back at Sandown in the Grade 2 Oaksey Chase, beating Ga Law.
She was carrying just 7lb less than the 154-rated gelding and also beat the likes of Hitman, Easy Game and The Real Whacker.
For that form alone it’s wise to side with this mare, capable of beating a whole host of Graded level horses.
Hourvari
It looks as though Herbier may well be in this hurdle race rather than a chase to give him a good bit of experience before going back over fences later this season, but getting this one out the way after such a lengthy time away from the track.
Matchless faces a 7lb penalty for winning just nine days prior to this race, but that is offset with Mr Jamie Neild on board.
Hourvari is also making a return to the track after a lengthy break, of 395 days.
But this hurdler is down to a dangerous mark to strike here and even if needing the run could still be a great bet given his previous form.
Ran in a Class 2 handicap hurdle on last appearance back in October and that was his first run in 191 days.
But he placed, when 5lb higher, just behind Hugos New Horse and also beat Bonttay by over six lengths and can strike back here in a race filled with uncertainties, long breaks, penalties, and unconfirmed form.
