    3.35: Fantastic Lady 9/2 each-way (1pt)

Palacio

Beat French Ship on hurdle debut at Chepstow in October and that horse has since gone on to score twice, along with a decent run behind The New Lion which has also worked out well for the gelding.

Dylan Johnston deployed Palacio from the start and made all at a huge price of 20/1 going clear of the rest of the field making it a pace test.

He held on quite well despite a much reduced lead at the end but it was still impressive.

He went off at 16/1 for a Class 3 novice hurdle at Cheltenham in December but couldn’t make all again against some tougher horses, but faces what could be just a match with the favourite Starcrossed Lover.

Jasmin De Grugy

Tipped Jasmin De Grugy last time out for his chase debut and he not only won in fine style but drifted in the odds for a big 9/4 payout with 1.5pts on.

He won so well in that race that he’s subsequently been upped 11lb by the handicapper.

But he’s still yet to be caught up with the rise in weights from four successive victories and now bids for the five-timer here.

There’s caution in the odds with him once again being around 9/4 in a field of nine similarly rated horses.

This will be a huge test of what he’s capable of but given the way he won and the progression that’s likely for a six-year-old like him, that’s a huge bit of value.

A win would be great to get trainer Anthony Honeyball back in the winners’ enclosure too.

Fantastic Lady

Not losing the faith in Fantastic Lady who was a decent second behind La Renommee last time out at Doncaster in listed mares’ company over 2m4f.

Back up to 3m today which is usually where she thrives but has seen better performances recently over shorter.

But she’s got the weights on her side today and only 4lb higher than when she beat Ga Law comfortably in April to land the Oaksey Chase.

Surprisingly she’s never raced at Newbury despite being at Seven Barrows, but the track is set to suit with her wins at Sandown hinting towards her going well here.

Invincible Melody

This gelding fetched a nice amount as a yearling and with Ralph Beckett training he should be a progressive sort at three-years-old.

He was just a head behind Coul Angel last time out and yet that gelding is the 3/1 favourite.

Hoping for a big improvement but he’s still overpriced on that evidence and makes a great each-way punt.

Only One Blue

A Blue Point filly who came a decent second on debut at Southwell and she was only just denied a win after strong market support that saw her go into 11/8 for the off.

She’s the same price this morning and could well be shorter after almost justifying favouritism last time out with progression on the cards for all three frontrunners in the market, but especially this filly, whose pedigree often leans to a better run on second attempt.

Her two main market rivals have only been seen over 7f so could challenge, but given the way Only One Blue stayed on well, she should find this easier.

Tom Lunn’s Profit/Loss

  • From November ’24: +66.44
  • From May ’24: +220.39pts
  • From July ’23: +432.95pts
