Plymouth’s problems went from bad to worse as Wayne Rooney’s side shipped FOUR goals in the first half at Coventry.
The Pilgrims, who are winless in their last eight, are bottom of the Championship and looked destined to stay there due to their nightmare first half at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Coventry, managed by Rooney’s former England teammate Frank Lampard, took the lead after five minutes through Tatsuhiro Sakumoto.
Ephron Mason-Clark scored in between two Josh Eccles goals to put Lampard’s men firmly into the driving seat.
And some of the fans in attendance inflicted further misery on Rooney with a chant about his future status as Plymouth manager.
“What on Earth has Frank Lampard done to Ephron Mason-Clark?” talkSPORT’s Geoff Peters said reporting from the game after the third goal.
“He’s been superb since Lampard arrived at the CBS Arena And I’m sure there’s a few cries about Rooney getting sacked in the morning.”
And after Eccles made it 4-0 to Coventry, Peters said: “‘You’re getting sacked in the morning’, they’re singing to Wayne Rooney. It’s Lampard’s Coventry 4-0 Plymouth.”
Lampard was appointed head coach of the Sky Blues in November and is having a better time of it than Rooney.
Since Lampard was appointed, Coventry have won two and lost two of their five games prior to kick-off on Boxing Day.
