Uganda and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have deepened their partnership in education and technology with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Digital Schools. On February 12, 2025, Henry Oryem Okello, Uganda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Affairs, officially endorsed the agreement during the World Government Summit 2025.
This MOU aims to expand the Digital School initiative throughout sub-Saharan Africa, focusing on increasing access to quality education and promoting digital literacy. The agreement builds on the UAE’s expertise in digital education and Uganda’s commitment to improving its education system, aiming to foster a more inclusive and effective learning environment.
The Digital School initiative is part of the UAE’s broader global efforts to advance education, under the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives. This strategic partnership between Uganda and the UAE is poised to enhance educational opportunities for students across the region and further strengthens the bilateral cooperation, following their earlier MOU on experience exchange in February 2024.
