The iconic Ford GT is back. Well, sort of. US-based dealership Graham Rahal Performance and restomod specialists Lynx Motors have partnered to produce 28 road-going examples of the Ford Matech Concepts GT race car. That’s right, the very same car Matech GT Racing campaigned in the 2010 24 Hours of Le Mans. They call it the Lynx GT1, and it looks epic.
Based on the 2005-2006 era GT, according to Lynx’s brochure for the car, the company has acquired the final 27 original Ford GT chassis and Matech’s original GT1 body molds. Powering the Lynx GT1 is an unspecified twin-turbocharged Ford V-8 making over 1,200 horsepower, which pairs with a Ricardo six-speed manual. A 1,500-hp Roush RY45 twin-turbo V-8 option is available, but only for the track version.

On the exterior, the Lynx GT1 sports a widebody kit that looks ripped from the track, custom bronze wheels, a massive rear wing, and carbon fiber aplenty. Lynx lists two styles of the GT1 on its website, the red-white-and-black “Eau Rogue” version and the blue-and-orange “Gulf” example. Both look equally beautiful.
Depending on how you spec it, the interior is available with either a spartan race-ready cabin with a full screen, or a full leather interior with modern amenities. Other upgrades include LED lighting, a full roll cage, side intrusion protection, traction control, and of course paint protection—which you’ll want to have for your pricey investment.

The car has an estimated starting price of $1.7 million before adding any road or track aero options. You’ll also be able to get a custom livery to personalize it. Lynx will build the car at its Indiana factory. It’s nice to see the GT still getting the respect it deserves. Ford introduced it in 2004, building just 4,050 examples of the retro-inspired coupe over its three-year lifespan.
