The Genesis Invitational betting preview

The very fact that the PGA Tour has any action this week is testament to its ability to rally the troops, both on and off the course.

When Los Angeles suffered appalling fires last month it was immediately obvious that Riviera Country Club would not be able to host the Genesis Invitational but Torrey Pines, which hosted the Farmers Insurance Open just a few weeks ago, is standing in.

On the one hand, everyone is delighted: the tournament will go ahead and money will be raised to support the fire-affected communities.

But some of the field will be quietly less than delighted to be teeing it up at Torrey Pines because, put simply, the South Course there is very, very tough.

It is demanding from the tee not only because it is long (7,765 yards) but the fairways are also hard to find.

It is also far from straightforward with approaches to awkward greens and the putting surfaces themselves have bumpy Poa Annua grass on them which many players loathe.

Some players will probably be beaten before they even tee off.

But who are the best bets? Let’s find out.

⛳ The Genesis Invitational betting tips

Find my predictions and best tips for The Genesis Invitational 2025 below.

Akshay Bhatia each way

The 23-year-old Californian Akshay Bhatia was a winner in 2023 and 2024, and it would be no surprise if he became a winner again in 2025.

He’s long enough from the tee to compete this week and he’s also got some neat course form because he made the cut on his major championship debut at the 2021 US Open and was 13th in last year’s Farmers Insurance Open.

His first two wins were notable for him warming to the task with improving form and so we ought to take note that he’s not missed a cut this year, was 22nd at Pebble Beach two weeks ago and 32nd last week after making a bold start with a 66.

He’s a tremendous price if you take bet365’s 60/1 each way option that pays out with a top eight finish.

🏌️‍♂️ Back Akshay Bhatia each way at 60/1 with bet365 ⛳

Jason Day Top 20

It doesn’t really matter which way you look at it, the Aussie Jason Day is an excellent price to make the top 20 this week.

Take his form: three top 20s in his last five starts and five in his last 10.

In California? 25 of them in 51 starts.

But it gets better.

When he plays on Poa Annua greens on Californian coastal courses his rate is 22 in 40 and at Torrey Pines he’s recorded eight in 16 starts (all eight in his last 13 appearances).

The numbers are on our side given that he’s available at 7/5 with Betfred for yet another appearance on the top page of the leaderboard.

🏌️‍♂️ Back Jason Day to be Top 20 at 8/5 with Betfred ⛳

Taylor Pendrith to beat Tom Kim

We’ve already noted that this week will demand quality driving and course knowledge.

Canada’s Taylor Pendrith – who ranks third for Strokes Gained Off the Tee – has landed three top 20s in five Torrey Pines starts – all three came in January and he finished top 10 in both 2024 and last month.

Korea’s Tom Kim, in contrast, is a course debutant who ranks 89th Off the Tee.

🏌️‍♂️ Take Pendrith at 4/5 (draw no bet) in their match-up with bet365 ⛳
