Wednesday football betting tips

Bet of the Day

Tottenham to beat Manchester City @ 9/4

Manchester City slumped to another defeat when losing 2-0 to Liverpool on Sunday and the Citizens could be in trouble again when they take on Tottenham.

Pep Guardiola’s men have won only two of their last six matches and one of those victories came against League One Leyton Orient in the FA Cup.

Even that 2-1 win was hard work for the Premier League champions and the Citizens have major defensive issues.

Rico Lewis is a long way off being an accomplished top-flight defender, Nathan Ake struggles to reach the required level and Abdukodir Khusanov appears to need time to settle at his new club.

That’s three of City’s back four with major vulnerabilities and, for all that Tottenham have defensive issues of their own, Spurs have the attacking talent to punish City.

Ange Postecoglou’s men played well when beating Ipswich 4-1 at the weekend and Spurs look a decent bet to beat the champions for a third time this season.

Special of the Day

Liverpool to score over 2.5 goals v Newcastle @ 6/5

Liverpool can continue their relentless pursuit of the Premier League title with a comfortable success over Newcastle.

The Magpies have conceded 16 goals in their last seven games, a run which included shipping four against Man City and two against League One Birmingham City in the FA Cup.

Eddie Howe’s men almost let a 4-1 lead slip when holding on for a 4-3 victory over Nottingham Forest on Sunday and Liverpool have the attacking tools to punish a suspect Magpies defence.

Liverpool are averaging 3.28 goals across their last seven Anfield matches and backing the Reds to score over 2.5 can pay dividends on Wednesday night.

Longshot of the Day

Ipswich to beat Manchester United @ 5/1

Manchester United rescued a 2-2 draw at Everton at the weekend, but scrambling to avoid defeat at Goodison Park is a measure of how far the Red Devils have fallen.

Ruben Amorim’s men managed only three shots on target against the Toffees and United have won only five of their last 15 matches inside 90 minutes.

An Old Trafford game against Ipswich would appear to represent a golden opportunity for United to pick up three points, but the Red Devils have won only five of their last eight home matches and those three victories were hardly convincing.

Amorim’s men were second-best when beating Leicester 2-1 in the FA Cup, it was the same story when United downed Rangers by the same scoreline in the Europa League and the Red Devils’ 3-1 Premier League success over Southampton came thanks to two stoppage-time goals.

Ipswich have shown enough fight, spirit and structure to believe they can take three points against an awful United side and offers of 5/1 look too big.
