Bet of the Day

Aston Villa to beat Tottenham @ 13/20

Sometimes the glaringly obvious can be viewed with caution, but Aston Villa look a clear standout wager when they host Tottenham in the FA Cup fifth round and Unai Emery’s men rate our best bet of the day.

Spurs slumped to another crushing defeat when losing 4-0 to Liverpool in the EFL Cup on Thursday night and that could be a tough loss to recover from just a few days later.

Ange Postecoglou’s men have won only three of their last 11 domestic matches and one of those victories was an extra-time success over non-league Tamworth in the FA Cup.

Defensive issues for Tottenham continue with Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero missing the defeat to Liverpool through injury and Villa have the quality to expose Spurs once again.

The Villans were beaten 2-0 at Wolves last time out, which was certainly a disappointing effort, but that match came around the time of Jhon Duran’s move to Saudi Arabia and the speculation surrounding the future of Ollie Watkins at Villa Park.

Emery will have enjoyed a clear week to get his side back on track and it’s difficult to see how Spurs can stop Villa progressing to the fifth round the FA Cup.

Special of the Day

Over 3.5 goals in Plymouth v Liverpool @ Evs

It’s 29 victories from 37 all-competition matches for Liverpool, who continue to steam through whatever opposition is put in front of them, and the Reds look a bet to make light work of Championship side Plymouth.

Arne Slot’s side have hit 12 goals in their last four games – they have won matches by scorelines of 6-3, 5-1, 5-0, 4-1 and 4-0 this term – and Argyle are likely to be powerless against the relentless red machine.

There may be a few switches in personnel on Sunday following Liverpool’s 4-0 EFL Cup success against Tottenham on Thursday night, but Plymouth have shipped 63 goals in the Championship this season and it could be another tough afternoon for the Pilgrims.

Longshot of the Day

Dunfermline to beat Aberdeen @ 11/2

A 3-0 Scottish Cup fourth-round success over Elgin City is the only victory Aberdeen have registered in their last 15 matches and the cup may not offer the sanctuary the Dons are searching for.

The Reds have scored only one goal in their last eight Scottish Premiership matches and that poor form in front of goal is a major concern, no matter the level of opposition.

Dunfermline have endured a turbulent season, but the Pars have looked a pretty useful side on occasions this term and they may just be able to spring a surprise in the Granite City.
