EntertainmentSportstalkSPORT betting tips – Best boxing bets and expert advice for Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach

The unbeaten Gervonta Davis is one of the brightest stars in boxing and Tank will put his WBA lightweight title on the line against challenger Lamont Roach Jr at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The bout has some complexities with Davis voluntarily defending his title and sanctioning body the WBA granting Roach special permission to move up to lightweight and challenge for Davis’ belt.

However, when it comes to fight time, it’s unlikely to be a complex bout for Tank, who should make light work of his outclassed rival.

Tank can demolish outclassed rival

Davis is one of the biggest draws in boxing and it’s easy to see why. Tank has won all of his 30 professional contests, with 28 of those victories coming by stoppage.

The 30-year-old has defeated Jose Pedraza, Leo Santa Cruz, Mario Barrios, Isaac Cruz, Rolly Romero and Ryan Garcia to name a few, in a glittering unbeaten career and the Baltimore man possesses dazzling speed and power.

Tank is the current WBA lightweight champion, he has also held the IBF super-featherweight title, the WBA super-featherweight belt twice and the WBA super-lightweight strap (regular version), so it’s clear that the Baltimore fight is one of the sport’s standout performances.

Tank would be a handful for any fighter in the lightweight division and not only is Roach Jr facing an unbeaten and destructive 135lbs fighter, but the Reaper has to make the step up from super-featherweight.

The Maryland man currently holds the WBA super-featherweight title, but the 29-year-old’s record doesn’t come close to matching that of Tank.

A 2023 victory over Hector Luis Garcia is the best victory on Roach’s card and the Reaper was convincingly outpointed when challenging Jamel Herring back in 2019.

The 29-year-old was a talented amateur performer, who has good footwork and defensive skills, but Roach was twice beaten by Davis in the unpaid ranks and now the Maryland man has to deal with the power and strength of Tank as a professional.

This should be a routine title defence for Davis and it’s no surprise to see the champion 1/20 to see off the challenge of Loach.

However, the total rounds line has been set at 8.5 and that might underplay the dominance and power of Tank.

The Baltimore man is the better fighter, who hits harder, is a natural lightweight and has all of the advantages in New York.

Going under 8.5 rounds looks the best way to play what should be a destructive and early success for Davis.
