Open‘Take advantage of the opportunity’ – Nick Sirianni plays coy as Eagles sign familiar face in wake of Jalen Hurts’ injury

A familiar face is back in Philadelphia.

In the wake of Jalen Hurts‘ concussion, the Eagles have signed quarterback Ian Book to the practice squad on Thursday.

Book is no stranger to Philadelphia, having played there in 2022

Book had previously played in Philadelphia back in 2022.

Hurts suffered a concussion in the first quarter of Philadelphia’s 36-33 defeat by the Washington Commanders, forcing him to leave the game.

Backup Kenny Pickett played the majority of the game.

Hurts’ status for Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys is now up in the air, hence the signing of Book.

The franchise quarterback was listed as DNP on Wednesday’s projected practice report while Kenny Pickett (ribs) was limited.

Tanner McKee and now Book, are the other two remaining quarterbacks in the room.

Speaking to the media, head coach Nick Sirianni didn’t indicate whether or not Hurts would be able to play on Sunday, and if the signing of Book was an indication of that.

He kept his cards close to his vest in response.

“Yeah you know, again, opportunity to add Ian here this week,” Sirianni said. “Took advantage of that opportunity.”

When asked more about Hurts’ status, Sirianni didn’t reveal anything new.

“He’s in the concussion protocol, so not a lot I can comment on, we’ll get you an update after today.”

Sirianni may have to navigate Sunday’s game against Dallas without his star quarterback, which would mean handing the reins back over to Pickett.

The former first-rounder out of Pittsburgh was competent, but by no means a needle-mover.

He finished the game against Washington going 14-24 for 143 yards with a touchdown and interception.

Not great.

The Eagles are currently 12-3 with eyes still on the one seed, which is currently held by the 13-2 Detroit Lions.

After the game against the Cowboys, the Eagles welcome in the New York Giants to finish off the regular season.

There is still a lot on the line to play for in the next two weeks, as the one seed is still up for grabs.

Whoever secures it will have an easier path to the Super Bowl.

While Philadelphia would no doubt love to get it, all there worries are now on the health of Hurts.
