Sunderland vs West Brom prediction
Sunderland are joint on points with Leeds in first and Sheffield United in third now, despite having been clear by a couple of points just a few games ago.
But Sunderland have drawn four in a row and though they’re not losing they are dropping valuable points in the race for the title.
As a result, they’ve gone into 2nd place as Leeds have overtaken them on goal difference.
It’s so close at the top and in the middle of the Championship this season with just six points separating the top seven and and only six points separating 8th-16th.
West Brom are among five teams to have only lost two so far this season but because they’ve drawn as many as eight already Albion are down in sixth rather than joining the rest in the top four battling for automatics.
Sunderland vs West Brom betting tips
Sunderland have scored 26 goals in their opening 16 games in the league so far, but only scored three in their last four outings, thanks to two successive goalless draws, followed by two scoring draws.
Sunderland were close to winning away the Den at the weekend but conceded a 93rd minute equaliser having kept the lead since the tenth minute.
Now they face another side who’ve been drawing consistently, who’ve had as many as four goalless draws in their last eight Championship matches.
Those draws have come against some tough teams too, including Millwall, Blackburn and Burnley, but failed to score against a Cardiff City side that are battling relegation.
As such, Sunderland are favoured to come out on top.
West Broom are actually top of the table when it comes to away games though, only losing once on the road this season and winning as many as four, meaning they’ve only won twice at home.
Sunderland are strong at home though, fourth in the home table with just seven games played and are yet to lose at the Stadium of Light.
The Black Cats have been toying with promotions for a few seasons now but now this could be their big chance to get back into the top-flight and a return to winning ways will help a long way in that against a strong West Brom team.
Darnell Furlong has been yellow carded five times this season from 16 appearances and coming up against a contender for winning the title, is likely to face a barrage of attacks and pick up another booking.
As are Sunderland’s Trai Hume and Patrick Roberts who have both picked up five from 15 appearances.
This could be a heated game especially if the score remains level for quite some time, with the pressure rising throughout in this crucial top six clash.
