Manchester United have been slammed for their ‘shocking’ defeat to Crystal Palace as their woes continued.

The Red Devils have now lost 11 times in the Premier League this season with the Eagles claiming a shock 2-0 win at Old Trafford.

A brace from Jean-Philippe Mateta sealed all three points for the visitors, condemning United to their 13th home league defeat since the start of last season, with only Wolves losing more in that time.

It’s also the first time since 1983 United have gone four league games without a goal against the same opponent.

Ruben Amorim’s side now sit 13th in the table having been leapfrogged by their opponents.

The Portuguese’s players were also slammed by Micky Gray following their latest setback.

Speaking on talkSPORT’s live commentary of the match, Gray explained: “It’s embarrassing. It really is. We’re supposed to be talking about top quality international players here.

“They switched off after the first five minutes of the second half. They looked bright, but Manchester United have been absolutely shocking.

“All they’re doing there is rubbernecking, looking at the linesman, saying, someone help me out and raise a flag.

“They’re just all over the place. They’re too nervy. This group of players are too nervy to play in front of their home fans.

“That is why it’s going to go from bad to worse. This has just been shocking.”

The defeat comes just two days after United beat FCSB in Romania in their final Europa League league phase match.

However, Gray does not believe the loss can be attributed to a ‘European hangover’.

The former Sunderland full-back added: “This is not a hangover from Europe for Manchester United, this is Manchester United. Get used to this.”

Palace’s victory added to Amorim’s struggles since taking charge of United in November.

Since his arrival in the Premier League, the former Sporting Lisbon boss has picked up just 14 points from 13 matches.

He has also won just one of his last six home league matches, a run dating back to December 1.

As a result, the Red Devils now find themselves 12 points adrift of the top four after 24 matches.
