Dr. Sheikh Ahmad Hamid Wandega, the Eastern Regional Assistant to the Mufti, has called on Ugandans to support the government’s Buy Uganda Build Uganda (BUBU) policy.
According to Wandega, consuming locally produced goods and services promotes Ugandan businesses and strengthens the economy by boosting income across various sectors.
Wandega made the remarks on Tuesday while receiving donations from Sino Uganda Mbale Industrial Park to the Muslim community in Mbale in celebration of Eid al-Fitr.
The donated items, valued at 48 million shillings, included duvets, bed sheets, diapers, mobile phones, ovens, bulbs, mats, clothing, speakers, and blenders. Additionally, the industrial park authorities handed out 4 million shillings in cash.
Wandega emphasized that supporting local businesses like the Sino Uganda Mbale Industrial Park creates employment opportunities for young people working in the factories.
Mbale Resident City Commissioner Asumin Nasike applauded Sino Uganda Mbale Industrial Park for fostering unity by donating to the Muslim community.
Laurent Zhang, the Administration Manager at Sino Uganda Mbale Industrial Park, said the donation was part of their commitment to giving back to the community that has supported the park’s growth. Zhang expressed optimism that the contribution would strengthen the relationship between the industrial park and the local residents.
