Cam Skattebo stole the show in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.

While Texas secured a dramatic 39-31 win against Arizona State in the Peach Bowl, the Sun Devils star running back did all he could to get his team over the line.

Skattebo pushed the much-favoured Longhorns to the limit, throwing a 42-yard fourth quarter touchdown pass to Malik McClain on fourth-and-2 before powering into the end zone himself to erase a 16-point deficit and send the game to overtime.

He even gave No.10-ranked Arizona State the lead for the first time all day with a three-yard touchdown run to start OT – which capped a brilliant individual performance.

But his effort wasn’t quite enough to knock off the Longhorns, who bounced back with two TDs of their own in overtime to advance to the CFP semifinals.

Skattebo nearly led the Sun Devils to a historic upset in a Peach Bowl thriller, and he did it all after looking worse for wear on the sidelines early in the fourth quarter.

As the game unfolded, ESPN reported that the running back was trying to take in more fluids and catch his breath after he was ‘vomiting profusely’ on the bench, leaving his status for the remainder of the game up in the air.

Not only did Skattebo return, but he finished the game with a monster stat line that will no doubt raise his NFL Draft stock.

He finished with 30 carries for 143 yards and two touchdowns, a team-high eight catches for 88 yards and one pass completion for a 42-yard touchdown.

All in all, Skattebo accounted for 56% of Arizona State’s total offense.

Heading into the Peach Bowl, the running back detailed how he had felt ‘disrespected’ by suggestions he was not the best in college football this season and declared that ‘nobody out there can stop me’.

It seems he was right to back himself, having been named the game’s Offensive MVP – the first time in 26 years that a member of the losing team has won the award.

Now, he will look forward to the 2025 draft.

Months ago, Skattebo was considered a potential free-agent prospect by NFL scouts, as some evaluators doubted he was the level of athlete required for the league.

But having been named a top-five Heisman finisher this season, and blowing Texas away in the Peach Bowl, his prospects look much brighter.

Skattebo has potential to sneak into the top 100 at the draft in April – and some fans have suggested he should be picked even higher than that.

“If he’s there in the first round still for the LA Chargers, Jim Harbaugh is definitely taking this dude 100%. Chargers need a stable running back,” one person predicted.

“The Raiders needs to draft Cam Skattebo. The real question is what round. Second? third?” another fan asked.

“The Eagles take him round two to sub out with Saquon Barkley,” a third said.

“Skattebo sure shot his draft stock up a little bit from this game alone, what an absolute demon,” a fourth person concluded.

It wasn’t just his efforts on the field during the Peach Bowl, or his draft stock, that had fans talking on social media.

Cam’s father, Leo Skattebo, shared a picture of the pair at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and many were quick to notice their striking resemblance.

“His dad’s genes said copy and paste,” one fan joked.

“Zero doubt about the resemblance,” another said, while a third added: “That’s the same person twice.”

Only time will tell where Skattebo ends up in the NFL, but one thing is for certain – he is one to watch heading into April’s draft.
