‘Ridiculous theory’ – Roger Goodell fires back at fan conspiracy that NFL refs are biased toward Chiefs

EntertainmentSports‘Ridiculous theory’ – Roger Goodell fires back at fan conspiracy that NFL refs are biased toward Chiefs

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell received question after question about the biggest theory surrounding Super Bowl week.

A league-wide conspiracy that game refs are ‘biased’ toward Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell had a lot to cover on Super Bowl media night

“That’s a ridiculous theory — for anyone who might take it seriously,” Goodell said on Monday at the Superdome in New Orleans.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Chiefs followed Goodell’s press conference by participating in media night.

But with questionable calls seeming to favor the back-to-back world champs during the 2024 playoffs, Goodell was pressed on a perceived Chiefs ‘bias’ that has refused to go away.

“This sort of reminds me a little bit of the script,” Goodell said.

“That I write a script and I have the script for the season.”

While Goodell joked about the theory, fans piled on and wanted better answers from the biggest voice of the NFL.

“The favoritism is clear,” one fan tweeted. “This commissioner is a joke.”

“Best keep an eye on this,” a second fan posted. “This theory that refs favor the Chiefs has been around for years.”

“It’s not ridiculous Rodg,” a third fan wrote.

“Masterclass answer but we know the truth,” a fourth fan posted.

Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills players and coaches complained after tough playoffs losses to the Chiefs that refs favored Kansas City.

Goodell insisted that games are called as evenly as possible, highlighting the fact that Kansas City has reached the Super Bowl by winning multiple one-score contests.

“A lot of those theories are things that happen in social media and they give a new life,” Goodell said.

“It’s out there. Nobody wants it to be their theory. I understand that. I think it reflects a lot of the fans’ passion.

“I think it also is a reminder for us how important officiating is. I think the men and women that officiate in the NFL are outstanding. They have the highest possible standards.

“It’s a ridiculous theory for anyone who might take it seriously. But at the end of the day, it’s something we always have to continue to work on.”

Saying there is no bias is one thing.

Proving it to frustrated NFL players is another.

“Everybody knows how it is, playing up here,” Texans running back Joe Mixon said.

“You can’t — you can never leave it into the refs’ hands.

“The whole world sees, man, what it is. It is what it is.

“When it comes down to it, you can’t never leave it into the refs’ hands.”
