Espanyol vs Real Madrid predictions

Espanyol entertain Real Madrid at the RCDE Stadium on Matchday 22 of the La Liga season.

The lesser-known club in the city of Barcelona is finding life in the top flight difficult and currently sit 18th in the table with 20 points from 21 matches.

The White and Blue are back in La Liga after spending last season in Spain’s second tier.

But with only five wins from 21 matches, Espanyol look set for an instant return to the Segunda Division unless head coach Manolo González can improve results in the second half of the season.

There are some positives for the Espanyol faithful. Things have picked up recently with the team losing only one of their last six.

The problem is there has only been one victory in that run for González and his team.

And despite this improvement, Espanyol still find themselves rooted in the bottom three, which is a further drain of confidence and self belief.

Last weekend, they warmed up for Madrid by holding Sevilla to a 1-1 draw away from home. It was a backs-to-the-wall defensive performance, with the White and Blue only having 25% of the possession.

Espanyol also conceded 25 shots, although luckily for them, only four were on target, as Sevilla’s struggles in front of goal continued.

Regardless of the match stats, Espanyol left with a point, and they are now unbeaten in three in La Liga.

Unfortunately for the White and Blue, Real Madrid are up next. And the champions now look to be firing on all cylinders again.

How many times have we seen this before? Los Blancos look a bit inconsistent and lost before Christmas. But in the new year, suddenly a switch seems to flick and the team finds another level from somewhere.

Real are top of La Liga. They have 49 points from 21 matches, giving them a four point lead over Atletico in second and a seven point lead over Barca in third.

Real is also on a winning streak of four in La Liga, and are unbeaten in their last six.

In their most recent league outing, Los Blancos defeated Valladolid 3-0 on the road.

And there is even worse news for Madrid’s rivals, Kylian Mbappe scored all three.

There is now no talk about how the Frenchman is struggling to adapt, or find his role in the team. Mbappe is now the conductor of the orchestra, and the rest of the team are playing to his rhythm.

As well as topping La Liga, Real also booked their place in the playoffs for the Champions League Round of 16 last Wednesday.

Los Blancos won 3-0 away at Brest. Two goals from Rodrygo and one from Jude Bellingham sealed the win, meaning Madrid finished 11th in the table on 15 points.

Espanyol vs Real Madrid betting tips

Real are 1/3 to win away at Espanyol. They are expected to make light work of the La Liga strugglers. Our Espanyol v Real Madrid betting tips can be found below:

Frankfurt to win or draw

A win for Real might look like a nailed on certainty, but we can see Espanyol making life difficult for the league leaders.

The hosts have only lost three of their 11 home matches this season. And they are also unbeaten at the RCDE Stadium in their last five La Liga matches.

Espanyol has scored 15 goals at home – a rate slightly better than a goal a game. They have only failed to score in front of their own fans twice. Once on Matchday 2 against Sociedad, and again on Matchday 11 against Sevilla.

We think the home team is a good bet to score, but still lose the match.

⚽ Back yes in both teams to score and Real Madrid to win at 43/20 with SBK ⚽

Rodrygo to score or assist

When you look at his recent statistics, this bet looks too good to be true.

Rodrygo has provided five assists and scored three goals in his previous five La Liga matches. He has had a goal involvement in four of his last five league matches.

The Brazilian has also scored four goals in his last two Champions League matches, including two against Brest on Wednesday.

Rodrygo is clearly not just going to idly stand by and let the likes of Mbappe, Vinicios Jr. and Bellingham take all the glory.

Mbappe is 1/2 to score or assist. Rodrygo is better than even money. It’s obvious where the better value odds lie.

⚽ Back Rodrygo to score or assist at 52/50 with Casumo ⚽

Kylian Mbappe to score anytime

We simply can’t ignore this man.

Kylian Mbappe has scored 15 goals in 19 La Liga matches. He is the second highest scorer in the league, just two strikes behind Robert Lewandowski, who at one point was running away with the Pichichi Trophy.

Mbappe has been red hot in recent weeks. He has five in his last two La Liga outings, seven in his last five, and nine in his last eight.

Furthermore, the Frenchman has scored in six of his previous eight La Liga matches. He is now Real Madrid’s go-to striker when they need a goal.

⚽ Kylian Mbappe to score anytime at 3/4 with BetMGM ⚽
