‘Old-school mentality – Undertaker names current WWE star that meeting would end up in real life ‘fist fight’

EntertainmentSports‘Old-school mentality – Undertaker names current WWE star that meeting would end up in real life ‘fist fight’

The Undertaker is no stranger to handing out receipts.

He shared the ring with hundreds of other wrestling stars during his storied 30-year WWE career, and on occasion, things got a little too snug.

Given the nature of professional wrestling, many performers have landed real shots on one another – whether intentional or not – in a bid to make things look as genuine as possible.

It’s just part of the business, as Taker knows.

Despite handing out the odd receipt for stiff moves, the Hall of Famer always remained a safe worker, and that’s what made him a true legend of the industry.

Speaking on a recent episode of his Six Feet Under podcast, Undertaker discussed old-school wrestling with his guest D-Von Dudley.

The pair reminisced about their days in the industry, when it was far different to what it is today, and also shared praise for one current WWE star who reminds them of the golden era.

World Heavyweight Champion Gunther.

The Austrian has established himself as the most destructive man on the roster since arriving in the WWE Universe, and had a record-breaking Intercontinental title run before winning the heavyweight gold at SummerSlam last year.

He’s so old-school, in fact, that Undertaker believes he would quickly end up in a fist fight with Gunther if they were to ever share the ring.

“He’s got that old-school mentality. I talked with him at the Netflix premiere,” the WWE icon revealed.

“I just like his mindset and the way he thinks about things. He’s an old soul for this day and age. It’s really refreshing to me.

“It’s nice to know that there’s some guys that are coming along that still have some of those old-school thoughts and values and ways of doing things.

“Because as simple as it is, or as simple as it looks, it looks different and it looks real. Whereas a lot of the stuff (these days) doesn’t necessarily look like it. Obviously it’s a different era.

“As much as I love him, as much as I love watching him work and everything he does, we’d fist fight.

“He’d hit me, and by the second time, I’d be like, ‘Okay, let’s go!’”

Undertaker, real name Mark Calaway, has made no secret of his admiration for Gunther over the years.

And to a star as dominant as the world heavyweight champion, having an wrestling icon suggesting he would want to throw hands in the ring is probably quite the compliment.

“Gunther is my guy,” Undertaker said back in 2024, choosing more traditional words of praise.

“I talk about him on my show all the time. He’s a throwback. Doesn’t do anything crazy.

“He chops the s*** out of you… but he doesn’t do anything crazy.

“What he does is believable. Everything he does is believable. And he’ll shine you up, like a good heel should.

“It’s an easy blueprint, without doing anything that’s really stupid and makes the risk that much more.”

Of course, Undertaker is unlikely to ever share the ring with Gunther, given he wrestled his last match five years ago.

Instead, he is observing from ringside like the rest of us, and will no doubt be watching as the heavyweight champ puts his belt on the line at WrestleMania 41 against Jey Uso.
