Liverpool head into tonight’s standout Premier League tie with the main goal of winning the match and further extending their lead at the top of the table.
Arne Slot’s side head into the midweek round of Premier League matches with a six point lead over Arsenal and Nottingham Forest, who are level on points in second place, while the Reds also boast a game in hand.
The Reds will be looking to get back to winning ways against Premier League opposition tonight though, having been held to a 2-2 draw in their last league outing against Manchester United, which was followed by defeat in their Carabao Cup semi final first leg against Tottenham.
The Merseyside club got back to winning ways on Saturday with a 4-0 win over League Two side Accrington in the FA Cup, but will be wary of the threat Nottingham Forest will pose tonight, the latter being the only side to have beaten Liverpool in the league this season.
Nottingham Forest made it seven wins in a row on the weekend with a routine 2-0 win over Luton in the third round of the FA Cup, leaving them brimming with confidence ahead of what is undoubtedly their biggest match of the season so far.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have exceeded all expectations and gone beyond this season, picking up 40 points from their opening 20 Premier League matches to leave them in third place, level on points with second-placed Arsenal heading into the second half of the campaign.
Forest have kept five clean sheets in a row ahead of tonight’s match against the league leaders, and their current seven-match win streak will give them huge optimism that they can win tonight record a momentous double against an otherwise all-conquering Liverpool side so far.
Liverpool have won four of their six matches against Nottingham Forest this century, but as alluded to earlier, the East Midlands side did get the better of the two the last time they met, in the Reds’ only league defeat so far this season.
