Luton were amongst the top of the list to be promoted at the start of the season but have slumped down the table leaving the club no choice but to part ways with Rob Edwards.

They sit 20th in the league and after four straight defeats a change is needed and Steve Cooper, former Leicester and Nottingham Forest manager is first in the betting to takeover at Kenilworth Road.

Not far behind is Matt Bloomfield who has worked wonders with Wycombe Wanderers in League One.

He could be a bit more of a gamble given survival in the Championship is a huge task and he’s only managed Colchester and Wycombe so far.

He’s also got a big tie with Wycombe as he made all of his senior career appearances at Adams Park from 2003 all the way through to 2022, making 488 appearances overall.

And helping Luton avoid relegation and go back up in the table is a much different task to what he’s facing with Wycombe currently, as they eye promotion.

The betting is still wide open for the London side, with three other potential candidates in single figures.

Luton are on the brink of back-to-back relegations having initially done so well to get into the Premier League last season.

They were in League One as recently as 2018/19 but will want to be able to regroup having accomplished victory in the Play-Off final in 2022/23.

Luton accumulated 26 points in their time in the Premier League, winning just six and losing as many as 24, adrift of safety by six points.

It would be a disaster if they do face relegation but the right manager could see them propel back up the table.

It’s not unheard of in the Championship for a big turnaround in the New Year that sees teams go from relegation contenders to challenging for the play-off spots.
