Holly Bird
This Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle is wide open in the betting and that’s mostly because it wouldn’t be that big of a surprise if any of these mares go on to win, despite pretty much all having poor form or running well off the mark last time out.
Royal Creek was far back on hurdle debut last month but that was her first run in 839 days, when winning a bumper back in August 2022.
It wouldn’t be unheard of to see a big improvement from the now seven-year-old but has drifted a little in the betting this morning to suggest she may be suited further down the line.
Reflection Of You is a short price considering she’s finished far back in both of her hurdle starts this season.
She was 27 lengths behind Sunset Hill and a further five lengths behind Love That at Kelso last time out, albeit in a Class 3 hurdle contest.
Holly Bird‘s fourth at Ayr in October is much better form I’d say, 14 lengths behind Country Mile who has since gone to achieve a rating of 137.
2nd place in that race, Walking On A Dream was also a subsequent winner to help boost that form and give Holly Bird more of a chance than most.
Golden Point was 50/1 last time out finishing nearly 19 lengths off of Gamesters Guy at Carlisle last month.
That horse went on to achieve a rating of 127 with great form also behind Navajo Indy at Bangor in October, who himself won the Grade 3 Hurdle at Newbury in November.
But given that was Holly Bird’s first outing over hurdles she looks a great bet.
Travail d’Orfevre
This Nicky Alexander-trained horse has raced 15 times over fences and now nine-years-old stepped up in trip last time out for the first time.
He’s primarily raced at Ayr and Kelso – with as many as 11 races under rules here.
But the key here is that he was upped to 4m at Kelso last month having previously only been seen as far as 2m6f before.
The grey placed third of 11 which is very encouraging making huge appeal here now down to 3m and down in grade.
