Michael Schumacher’s former boss, Jean Todt, has spoken of his regular visits to see the Formula 1 legend.
Todt was Ferrari‘s team principle during Schumacher’s most successful period, helping him to win five of the seven world titles earned during his most decorated career.
After retiring from the sport, the German driver was involved in a horrific skiing accident in 2013.
The incident was life-changing for Schumacher, who has not been seen in public since.
With a family who are keen to preserve his privacy as he receives permanent medical care, only a select number of people are able to visit the German superstar.
One of those is Frenchman Todt, who revealed that he’s still very much in touch with his friend and former colleague.
Speaking to La Repubblica, per the Daily Mail, Todt said: “The family has decided not to answer the question (on his condition). A choice that I respect.
“I see him regularly and with affection, him and his family.
“Our bond goes beyond the past work.
“It is part of my life, which today is very far from Formula 1.”
Schumacher is rumoured to have made a rare public appearance for his daughter’s wedding in their luxury villa in Majorca.
It was claimed that guests were forced to hand over their phones to prevent photos being leaked of the Ferrari legend.
However his close friend Jonny Herbery, who raced in Formula 1 until 2000, rubbished the reports.
He told Flashscore in November: “It will always be a closed shop.
“The most recent rumour was he attended his daughter’s wedding.
“Unfortunately, from what I understand that was all A1 fake news and no truth in it.”
Schumacher is regarded as arguably the greatest formula 1 driver ever and has seven world titles to show for it.
That tally is rivalled only by Lewis Hamilton who boasts the same amount.
Having joined Ferrari himself for the 2025 campaign, the British star will be desperate to win just one more to overtake Schumacher’s stunning trophy count.
