Michael Bisping popped his eye out as he interviewed fellow UFC one-eyed fighter Sharabutdin Magomedov.
The undefeated Russian will be battling Michael Page at UFC Fight Night: Adesanya v Imavov after his viral double spin backfist knockout against Armen Petrosyan in October.
Magomedov was given a third $50,000 performance bonus for that bout and has since rode his fame.
He lost his right eye during a training session accident in Thailand and as a result took a three-year break between 2018 and 2021.
During that time there were multiple attempts to reverse the damage by doctors, including eight surgeries, but ultimately the best course of action was to remove it.
Previously the only one-eyed fighter in the UFC was former middleweight champion Bisping.
Ahead of the fight event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the two met for an interview.
As Bisping took out his fake eye – as he did live on talkSPORT in 2022, to Simon Jordan’s horror – he said, “There you go, now we’re brothers. Did you ever think about getting one of these?”
“I was told but now I’m thinking about it,” replied Magomedov.
Bisping continued: “It doesn’t matter, you look good. You own it. I’m a p****y, everyone was bullying me online saying mean things. They hurt my feelings so I tried to hide it.”
The Brit lost his eye from an injury sustained in a knockout loss to Vitor Belfort in 2013.
Despite a major setback he continued to fight with one eye for several years and defied the odds to win a world title by knocking out Luke Rockhold at UFC 199 in 2016.
In March 2022, Bisping gave talkSPORT listeners a bit more than they bargained for when he removed his eye live in the studio.
Appearing on White and Jordan, the 45-year-old was keen to show the extent of the damage Belfort caused him.
Unfortunately for him, he was unaware the broadcast was being streamed on Facebook and YouTube.
“It’s radio so you can’t see, it’s PG,” Bisping said.
Footage from the show quickly went viral on social media, and so did Bisping’s latest video about his eye as MMA fans love to know how he manages such a catastrophic injury.
Evidently, he’s coping just fine with the support of doctors and his family.
