Manchester United head into the weekend having got back to winning ways in the Premier League on Wednesday night with a hard fought 3-2 victory over Ipswich, ending a run of five defeats in their last six games at Old Trafford.
The win has seen Ruben Amorim’s side climb into 14th place, but the gap between the Red Devils and the top half of the table stands at nine points with 11 games remaining, leaving a bottom half finish looking inevitable, which would be by far the club’s lowest ever Premier League finish.
United are the defending champions of this competition after their surprise 2-1 win over local rivals Manchester City in last season’s final, and have already dumped two Premier League teams out of this year’s competition to book their place in round five as they bid to become the first team to defend their title since Arsenal in 2015.
Fulham got back to winning ways in midweek with a 2-1 win at Molineux, meaning they head to Old Trafford on Sunday with four wins in their last five matches in all competitions.
The Cottagers are enjoying a promising Premier League campaign, with Tuesdasy night’s win taking them up to ninth place in the table, leaving them only two points behind the top six and giving them an outside shot of a first season in Europe for 14 years.
The west London side are now only one win from just their second FA Cup quarter final in the last 15 years, as the club still wait for their first ever major trophy.
Fulham have won only one of their last 21 matches against Manchester United, losing six of their last seven meetings including each of their last two.
