Manchester City ended a year of two halves in 2024 by ending a five match winless run with a 2-0 victory over Leicester to take the four-time defending champions back into the top six of the Premier League table.
Pep Guardiola’s side have faced a tumultuous opening half of the season, starting strongly but only winning two of their last 14 matches in all competitions which has seen their title aspirations all but finished.

Nine defeats in those 14 matches has suddenly left City in a battle to even qualify for the Champions League next season, with their currently being a four point gap between themselves and fourth-placed Chelsea heading into the opening weekend of the new year.
West Ham are also having a time of late falling to a 5-0 defeat at home against runaway league leaders Liverpool in their final match of 2024, leaving the Hammers 13th in the Premier League table, currently four points off the top half.
Julen Lopetegui remains under pressure for his job, currently odds on to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked after a disappointing opening half of the campaign in his first season in the job after taking over from David Moyes in the summer.
The east London side have only lost one of their last five matches but performances haven’t been what the fans have expected and the club have been hit long term injuries of star players Michail Antonio and most recently Jarrod Bowen, seriously hindering their attacking department.
Manchester City have won each of their last five matches against West Ham, without having tasted defeat against them in the league since 2015, 21 meetings ago.
The home side will be looking for back to back victories for the first time since October on Saturday, and with a small bit of confidence back in the bag ahead of their game against West Ham who are bereft of any following news of captain and top scorer Bowen’s broken foot.
City will be expected to start the year with a comfortable three points to their name, with Antonio and Bowen both out for the visitors I predict a 3-0 victory for the home side.
