Lisandro Martinez was left in tears as he was stretchered off with a serious-looking injury.

The Manchester United star was playing against Crystal Palace when he was involved in a duel with Ismaila Sarr.

Coming out of the challenge, Martinez immediately looked to be in pain and signaled to the bench that he needed to come off.

After a lengthy period of treatment, the defender was left in tears as he was stretchered off the pitch in heartbreaking scenes.

While the nature of his injury is yet to be confirmed, it looked to be a serious knee injury.

Reflecting on the injury, Ruben Amorim said: “We are going to see in the next days but I think it is a serious situation.

“He is not only a great player but a strong character in the dressing room.

“He felt it and when you are a player, you know when it is something serious.

“We are here to help him in this difficult moment like he has helped us.”

It led to a six-minute delay to the game with players and fans watching on with concerned looks on their faces.

It comes 12 months after Martinez suffered another knee problem in which he sprained a medial collateral ligament against West Ham.

While the defender didn’t require surgery at the time, he was forced to miss most of the second half of the season as a result.

Previous to that, Martinez spent months on the sidelines with a broken metatarsal.

This term Martinez has been a key player for Man United, playing 32 times this season, starting all-but four of those games.

Unfortunately his absence was felt against Crystal Palace with the visitors claiming a 2-0 win.

Jean-Philippe Mateta struck twice to earn a win for the Eagles as they leapfrogged Man United to move into 12th position in the table.

It means that the Red Devils have now failed to score against Palace in four consecutive Premier League games.

It’s the first time since 1983 United have gone four league games without a goal against the same opponent.

It was a day that ended in misery as Palace ran out as winners

Palace have now won four of their last six visits to Old Trafford.
