Man United make Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho stance abundantly clear

OpenMan United make Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho stance abundantly clear

Manchester United are NOT actively looking to sell Alejandro Garnacho or Kobbie Mainoo in this transfer window, talkSPORT understands.

Garnacho is attracting interest from Napoli and Atletico Madrid but it would take an offer worth around £70m to tempt United to consider cashing in.

The United youngsters are reportedly staying put at Old Trafford.

The Argentine began his journey as a youth player at Atleti before making the significant move to Old Trafford.

Currently contracted until 2028, Garnacho’s playing time has dwindled dramatically in recent weeks, especially after being left out of the squad for the hard-fought 2-1 derby triumph against Manchester City last month.

Diego Simeone’s team find themselves in a fiercely competitive La Liga title chase, one point clear of Real Madrid at the top of the league.

Ruben Amorim is still navigating how to integrate the 20-year-old into his newly adopted 3-4-3 system.

This situation sharply contrasts last season, where Garnacho was a constant presence under former manager Erik ten Hag.

Garnacho started every one of United’s 38 league games of last season.

It was thought Argentine would welcome the opportunity for a fresh start in a familiar environment under Atletico head coach and compatriot Simeone.

Meanwhile, Mainoo’s protracted contract negotiations have put clubs including Chelsea and Bayern Munich on alert.

However, United see Mainoo as a key part of their future and again would only be tempted to sell their academy product for a massive fee.

The past 18 months have been nothing short of extraordinary for Mainoo, who is currently earning £20k a week.

Garnacho has endured a difficult 2024/25 campaign

He faced challenges at the start of last season due to an injury sustained on the summer tour, but after making his first-team debut in November, his impact was undeniable, leading to a place as a regular starter.

Mainoo concluded an incredible breakout campaign by scoring the decisive goal in United’s FA Cup final victory over City.

His performances have continued to impress, starring in a resilient draw at Anfield against Liverpool and a notable FA Cup win over Arsenal at the Emirates.

The Red Devils are keen to shift players like Antony, Christian Eriksen, and Casemiro before the June 30 PSR deadline to safeguard their most valued assets.

United ended last season with staggering losses of £113.2 million but are reportedly optimistic about remaining compliant with the regulations.

Still, their ambitious £200m summer spending spree means players must be sold if reinforcements are to arrive in 2025.

Man United are currently languishing in 14th

Manchester United’s next fixture is against Southampton at Old Trafford on Thursday.

A win is very much needed as they try to climb up the Premier League table, and it’s the same case for Southampton who are rock bottom.

The Saints have only won one game of their 20 outings so far, sitting on six points and looking like they could potentially be all but relegated already.
