A man in his 30s drowned in a fuel tank and died on Sunday night in Kabale District while chasing suspected thieves.
The deceased, identified as Nazario Kyoro Twebaze, was a resident of Nyakatugunda Village in Kamuganguzi Sub-County. Earlier that day, he had been seen transporting a plastic tank filled with petrol on a tricycle (Tuk Tuk) with registration number UGA 838R.
At around 10 PM, while inside his house, Twebaze heard people attempting to steal the fuel. According to Nyakatugunda Village LC1 Chairman James Murungyi, he rushed out and chased the suspects.
Afterward, Twebaze climbed onto the tuk tuk to check if the fuel was still in the tank. In the process, he lost his balance, fell into the tank, and suffocated to death.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed that the body has been taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source and intended destination of the fuel.
