Luke Humphries suffers ‘confidence breakdown’ in front of Roy Keane and even forgets own walk-on song

OpenLuke Humphries suffers ‘confidence breakdown’ in front of Roy Keane and even forgets own walk-on song

Pressure gets the better of us sometimes, even the reigning PDC World Darts Champion.

Luke Humphries was a guest of The Overlap’s Stick to Football 2024 quiz, which featured football legends like Roy Keane, Gary Neville, and Paul Scholes.

Humphries joined the gang for a high-stakes darts game in the final round and it was not his finest hour.

He showed he was human after all as the nerves showed right from the first moment, even forgetting basic information.

Quizmaster Michael McIntyre asked what song he walks out to and he said: “I walk on to… f***ing hell I forgot!”

Cue hysterics from The Stick to Football gang.

“I walk on to ‘I Predict A Riot’, it’s just changed.”

Mega-Leeds fan Humphries has now adopted the Kaiser Chiefs song, which is a favourite at Elland Road, after getting rid of ‘Cake by the Ocean’.

The intros were done and Humphries, who won the PDC World Darts Championship last January after beating Luke Littler in the final, got the chance to return to what he’s good at… throwing the arrows.

After throwing for Gary Neville’s team, Humphries managed a paltry 22 from three darts.

“I think that’s the first 22 I’ve hit all year as well,” he said. “I think I feel more pressure doing this than I do at the World Championships.”

After getting just five on his next throw, Neville joked: “We should have got Jake Humphries.”

Keane and Ian Wright ended up defending Humphries to try and put the darts star at ease.

Standing up to Neville, Wright said: “Do you want some? Because I’ll have it with you, Gary.

“If he wants some, I’ll give it to him.”

Michael McIntyre proceeded to book the pair of them.

“We’re all friends now,” McIntyre said, before turning to Humphries. “You’ve lost your ability to play darts.”

Humphries’ woes continued for a bit and Neville even said:  “That’s a f***ing worry, Ian Wright is asking the world champion what to go for.”

Humphries did eventually get it together to hand Keane’s team the win

To show it was all good natured, McIntyre added: “We’ve had two bookings, nearly a fight and a confidence breakdown.”

Humphries eventually settled his nerves to hit the treble 20 a couple of times to give Roy Keane, Ian Wright and Jill Scott the win.

It was perhaps not the ideal practice for the reigning champion as he looks to defend his crown at the Ally Pally.

Humphries takes on Welshman Nick Kenny in the third round on Friday.

Clearly he was saving his best for Ally Pally.
