AnEsonGib proved KSI wrong by scoring a victory over Slim ‘The Hitman’ Albaher in Misfits’ Qatar Super Card main event.
The fight created history as it was officially Misfits’ longest-ever bout as both men battled it out over eight, three-minute rounds.
Gib was announced the winner via majority decision and crowned the brand-new Misfits middleweight champion.
“From meme to the best,” he said after the bout.
“I’m the best fighter in influencer boxing, I’ve taken out three promotions and I’m happy to be the Misfits champ.”
Gib was then asked about Salt Papi, who brutally knocked out King Kenny in the co-main event, and if he could be his next opponent.
“I don’t think I give a s***,” he responded.
“Greatest opponent , 7-0, great boxing ability and a great team. He made me train hard and a good fight.”
Slim responded shortly after and he said: “I definitely think it was a close fight.
“There was a lot of dirty boxing in there…I thought I landed some great shots, but Gib was tougher than i thought.
“I even broke my knuckle on his head.”
The pair had gone back and forth with plentiful trash talk in the build-up to the fight.
Misfits co-owner and YouTube boxing pioneer KSI had even stated before the bout where his allegiance lay, admitting he wanted AnEsonGib to get knocked out.
There was so much riding on the fight as KSI added his heart was beating rapidly right from the off, after Michael Buffer had introduced the highly anticipated main event.
KSI continued to air his confidence in a Slim victory in what turned out to be an extremely biased episode on the mic, which didn’t turn out too well for him.
‘The Hitman’ caught Gib with a strong right hand at the beginning of round one and the latter had to shake it off to respond quickly.
It was Slim who was more effective in the opener and he arguably instantly went one up on the judges’ scorecards, although Gib finished strong.
Gib came out quick again in the second round and looked very well-conditioned as he started to find his range and rhythm.
“Gib looks like a drunk donkey,” KSI uttered as the second round closed and he continued his favouritism towards the champion, in what actually turned out to be a much better round for the challenger.
The Saudi Arabia-born boxer continued his relentless pressure in what was a nip and tuck round that finished with the champion landing a solid left hook.
Gib was storming the castle trying to conquer the king, and looked to have landed Slim’s first-ever boxing knockdown, but it was ruled a slip as replays showed a brutal clash of heads.
The challenger continued to throw strong shots towards the Brooklyn, New York native, who was representing the nation of Yemen as ‘The Hitman’ looked out of ammo.
Gib started to rack up better moments in the later rounds and caught Slim with a brutal right hand that must have awarded him the fifth on the judges’ scorecards.
Slim needed to assert himself back into the fight as they went into round six, while Gib’s corner called for more volume in the hope of a finish.
Gib followed his corner’s advice well and stayed in perfect range to pick Slim off as the latter’s attempts dropped.
In round seven, Slim, who looked like he had gained a second wind, started to find his way back into the fight with a few combinations.
Gib’s glove tape then needed tightened which offered both men a quick breather.
Then, in the final round, although KSI said it was ‘5-2’ to Slim, Gib continued to dictate the pace.
KSI was shook at how much Gib still had left in the tank as Slim looked the more tired of the pair towards the end of the bout.
The fight ended with both men raising their hands in the air, but Gib would have been more confident that he had won the bout.
Buffer then announced the scorecards: 76-76, 78-74 and 79-73 as Gib was deservedly crowned the winner via majority decision, though the drawn scorecard certainly raised eyebrows.
