Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce are showing strong interest in Villa centre back Diego Carlos.

There could be a domino effect with Carlos going to Turkey if Villa can secure a deal for Mingueza.

The versatile Spaniard, who can play at both centre-back and right-back, currently has 18 months remaining on his contract.

He joined Celta from Barcelona in 2022 and has been capped twice by Spain.

The 25-year-old has made 17 La Liga appearances so far this season, scoring twice and providing five assists.

Mingueza would be Unai Emery’s first signing of the January transfer window.

The Spaniard previously spent almost £150million on eight new additions in the summer.

As for Carlos, the Brazilian’s deal is also set to expire at the end of next term.

The 31-year-old is currently sidelined with a foot injury but is expected to return to action this month.

Carlos has featured 17 times this season, including in all six of Villa’s Champions League fixtures.

However, Tyrone Mings’ return to fitness could limit his opportunities despite Pau Torres’ injury absence.

Villa have already loaned out Lewis Dobbin to Norwich following his return from West Brom this month.

Jaden Philogene could also leave Villa Park before the window closes as he nears a move to Ipswich.

Emery’s side are currently eighth in the Premier League after 20 matches but sit just four points adrift of the top four.

They are also into the fourth round of the FA Cup after beating West Ham on Friday night.
