Jorginho considering early Arsenal exit and Gunners have perfect transfer lined up

OpenJorginho considering early Arsenal exit and Gunners have perfect transfer lined up

Jorginho is considering leaving Arsenal in January before his contract expires this summer.

And the Italian midfield maestro has reportedly been offered to Brazilian club Palmeiras.

According to ESPN, Jorginho’s agent has already met the Brazilian team to negotiate but an exit from the club depends on an agreement between the two sides.

It is understood they are one of two teams the midfielder would be willing to return to his birth country for, the other being Flamengo.

The 33-year-old has only played 820 minutes so far this season, starting just nine of Arsenal’s 30 matches.

Last year he penned a contract extension with the club but it seems history will not repeat itself.

Jorginho has been lowered in the pecking order of Mikel Arteta’s midfielders, especially with the £31.6million signing of Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad in August 2024.

Italy star Jorginho first came to the Premier League as a Chelsea player after leaving Napoli in a deal worth £57m in 2018 – and quickly became an integral cog.

In his debut season, he won the Europa League, defeating his then future club 4-1 in the final.

Jorginho is not the typical all action, duel winning midfielder, but that did not slow his dominance, often controlling the tempo of play and picking out magnificent passes.

The 2021/22 campaign solidified Jorginho as one of Europe’s top midfielders.

His hop step penalty routine personified coolness as he led the Blues to their second Champions League triumph, beating Manchester City in the final.

He then went on to captain Italy to a Euros win that summer, starting every game for his nation.

Upon joining Arsenal on deadline day in 2023, it was revealed that Arteta attempted to sign Jorginho from Chelsea in 2020 but was unsuccessful.

That was not the Spaniard’s first attempt – at Man City he vouched for the then Napoli player but Jorginho rejected the move to join the west London club.

“When he (Arteta) was at City and I was in Naples, that was the first time (he tried signing me) and then he tried twice when he was here and it didn’t happen,” he said after signing the new deal.

Jorginho has been a huge help to Arsenal as they came close to their first Premier League since 2004 last season but fell short.

As Arsenal struggle to maintain their status as title challengers, injury problems have hit the squad hard, meaning selling Jorginho would be a risk.
