Jake Paul’s advisor Nakisa Bidarian insists the Canelo Alvarez mega-fight is not yet ready to be announced.
Paul has yet to announce his next fight after beating heavyweight legend Mike Tyson in a blockbuster commercial event in November last year.
Reports surprisingly suggested that the pound-for-pound great was in talks to host a mega-fight with Paul on the famous ‘Cinco De Mayo’ weekend in May.
Surprisingly, Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn suggested that the fight deal had been reached.
He told Boxing News: “It was all very sudden, wasn’t it? Give [Canelo] him the money and he’ll fight.
“I guess the talk was a Crawford fight. Now it looks like the Paul fight is done by all accounts.
“Does that make the Crawford fight less appealing? He’s kind of moving into that world now.
“I don’t blame him as he’ll make an absolute fortune to fight Jake Paul. I don’t mind the fight but you have to respect Paul for taking the Canelo fight.
“He’s doing that because there’s a huge amount of money on the table. I don’t mind seeing it.”
Hearn’s suggestion that the fight is completed for May seems to be premature, however.
Of course the Matchroom kingpin may likely have been speculating, given he won’t be privy to negotiations.
And Paul’s advisor Bidarian has posted on social media, insisting it is far from done.
He said: “Wild times when the media is running with a confirmation of a potential fight based on the words of a person who has nothing to do with the fight.
“When there is something to announce, we will announce it.
“No outside promoter has any accurate insight on our discussions being concluded or not with any Jake Paul opponent [multiple names in discussion].”
Despite suggestions the deal isn’t yet complete, Paul was happy to tease fans online, posting a picture of the boxing legend.
It has been a whirlwind for Alvarez’s future in recent weeks, with reports suggesting he would face Terence Crawford in September.
The traditional boxing mega-fight looked set to land in Las Vegas and make history, but reports have suggested a deal is now off.
This may be down to Paul’s talks with Alvarez, a surprise fight for the YouTuber-turned-boxer who has never fought an opponent of that calibre.
His unlikely quest to pursue a full career in boxing may have landed him the shot of a lifetime, with a huge payday likely to have lured Alvarez into the event.
Former world champion Tony Bellew suggested any clash would be over in 30 seconds.
He said: “He would fight him, 100 per cent for the money. He’d flatten Jake Paul.
“It’d take him about 30 seconds. And the only reason it’d take 30 seconds is because he’d probably be laughing for 20.
“He could do whatever he wants to Jake Paul. You have to understand the level that Canelo Alvarez operates at a different level to what 90 per cent of boxers operate at.”
