Jake Paul’s manager confirms stance on Anthony Joshua fight that would have the same outcome as Mike Tyson bout

OpenJake Paul’s manager confirms stance on Anthony Joshua fight that would have the same outcome as Mike Tyson bout

Jake Paul’s manager has said an Anthony Joshua fight is ‘kind of the same thing’ as the YouTuber’s clash with Mike Tyson.

Paul comfortably beat boxing icon Tyson via unanimous decision in a huge record-breaking crossover fight in front of 70,000 fans in Texas last weekend.

58-year-old Tyson was a shadow of his former heavyweight champion self and many fans were left highly disappointed after watching the fight.

Neither man really let their hand go in a very low-output bout, which was streamed to Netflix’s 280million subscribers and witnessed Paul simply outpoint Tyson on the outside.

In fact, Tyson landed just 18 punches during the entire bout and failed to land a single blow in both the fourth and sixth rounds.

Paul called out Canelo Alvarez after the fight, but his next opponent remains a mystery.

The 27-year-old has been tipped to take on some of boxing’s biggest names, including IBF heavyweight title holder Daniel Dubois and the man he beat for that belt Anthony Joshua.

In fact Paul leaked Instagram messages from Dubois last week that showed the heavyweight champion calling him out.

“Jake’s feedback to me was I want to do that fight [against Dubois]. Not now. But I want that fight,” said Paul’s manager and promoter Nakisa Bidarian, speaking to Sky Sports.

“To be a world champion at cruiserweight, he wants to do that. The other is to test the limits of expectations. Test the limits of what’s possible.

“This event with Mike Tyson, that tested the limits of what was possible for the world to see and him fighting Anthony Joshua or Daniel Dubois is kind of the same thing.

“Jake weighed in at 227lbs but really he walks around at 215. But he’ll do it for the right environment, the right framework.”

Bidarian has previously insisted that his client could take on Canelo in what would be a blockbuster event, but remains consistent on Paul really being able to pick whom he wants.

“He has plenty of options,” Bidarian added. “He’s going to take a few days off and then we’re going to sit down next week with him, his advisers, his coaches and determine the next steps.

“This was an opportunity to grab the world’s attention and remind them why this is such a beautiful sport.”

“Jake played a major part in doing that in his match against Mike Tyson and strategically we positioned Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano right before them.

“In terms of what’s next for Jake – whatever he wants it to be, to be honest.”

Katie Taylor secured a controversial unanimous decision victory in Texas before Paul vs Tyson despite being deducted a point for headbutting in round eight.

She was booed by the crowd at the AT&T Stadium after the bout, but told talkSPORT exclusively that she was happy, because ‘all the judges were in agreement’.
