Jake Paul wants to retire after he has taken a shot at becoming a boxing Olympic gold medalist.
Paul has forged a career in the squared circle by using his social media presence to headline huge and lucrative boxing events.
The YouTuber-turned-boxer has fought some high-profile names including ex-UFC fighters Nate Diaz and Anderson Silva, boxer Tommy Fury and most recently heavyweight legend Mike Tyson.
He is just setting out in his career but has huge ambitions despite his influencer background, having suggested he wants to become a world champion.
Most recently, Paul suggested he wants to form a part of Team USA at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics in the boxing ring, harbouring ambitions of claiming an unlikely gold medal.
There are some hugely gifted amateurs fighting on the circuit, and it would likely be a huge ask for ‘El Gallo’ to go all the way.
And Paul believes has his eyes on immediate retirement afterwards, if he is to tasted medal glory.
He said on Ring Champs: “I don’t think it’ll be after winning a world title.
“I’m going to try and figure out how to fight in the 2028 Olympics and win gold and then I think I’ll retire.“
When asked how he will compete at the Olympics and in what weight, he added: “It’s in kilograms, so 80-90 something. The one under heavyweight.
“I think people haven’t seen the best version of me in the ring or what I’m capable of.
“I think I’ve not shown that and this next year is the great way to do that.”
Paul’s last fight with Tyson was watched by 108 million viewers, and despite criticism, was a hugely successful commercial event.
The YouTube star lost in his only test with a natural boxer in Fury, but is still hopeful of forging a career in the professional ranks.
He has regularly suggested he harbours hopes of becoming world champion, and has even called out 168lbs superstar Canelo Alvarez.
Paul’s advisor Nakisa Bidarian insists a showdown with the Mexican is a real possibility, and is far from being unrealistic despite their current experience gap.
“We just put on the biggest event since the advent of cable for combat sports,” he said.
“And so no matter what fighter you are, you have to look at that and say ‘That is a pretty special moment, that is a pretty special platform’.
“Jake Paul doesn’t need Canelo from a fan perspective nor from a belt perspective because they are not going to fight for the belts Canelo holds.
“Canelo certainly doesn’t need Jake Paul to make money either.
“For me, it has to be more than that. It has to be a desire to once again have the world stop and pay attention to this beautiful sport of boxing.
“Have the world look at it and say ‘Wow! Boxing is back’… the hurdle is not money.”
