The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) is gearing up to compete in the upcoming East Africa Inter-University Games, with high hopes for success. Head coach Haruna Kebba expressed optimism about the team’s prospects, highlighting the significant preparations that have been undertaken.
“We have been working hard to improve our performance,” Kebba said. “We’ve identified our strengths and weaknesses and are focused on addressing the areas where we need to improve.”
One of the key challenges for IUIU has been maintaining consistent high performance. However, the team’s recent participation in the Third Division League has provided valuable experience and contributed to their development.
“The Third Division Eastern League has been crucial in preparing our players for the rigors of the East Africa Games,” Kebba explained. “It has exposed them to competitive football and helped them develop their tactical awareness and physical fitness.”
IUIU will be fielding teams in various sports, including football, netball, woodball, darts, and lawn tennis. The team is particularly optimistic about their chances in football, where they have made significant strides in recent years.
“We have a talented group of players who are eager to make their mark on the tournament,” Kebba said. “Our goal is to reach the final and bring home a medal.”
The East Africa Inter-University Games will be held at Maseno University in Kenya, from December 15th to 21st. IUIU is determined to make a strong showing and represent Uganda with pride.
