EntertainmentSportsIs Travis Kelce retiring after Super Bowl LIX? Kansas City Chiefs superstar could call time on career after NFL showpiece

Travis Kelce will be hoping he can propel the Kansas City Chiefs to immortality in Super Bowl LIX as they eye a historic three-peat.

The superstar tight end has played a major part in the Chiefs’ success over the last few years, winning three Super Bowls alongside Patrick Mahomes

The reigning champions will look to claim a third-straight title and become the first team ever to do so when they face the Philadelphia Eagles.

If they achieve it, the Chiefs will become legends in the game and for Kelce, he would have reached the very pinnacle of the sport.

So would that be a perfect time for the 35-year-old to call it a day?

Is Kelce retiring after the Super Bowl?

There are no confirmed reports that Kelce will retire after Super Bowl LIX.

His contract at the Chiefs comes to an end after the 2025 season, meaning he’s still tied down for another campaign if he wants to continue

And sources told the Daily Mail in late January that he has no plans to hang up his boots regardless of how the Super Bowl pans out.

“Travis is not ready to retire,” an insider revealed to the outlet. “Whether the Chiefs win or lose, he would want to either go for the four-peat or avenge losing in the Super Bowl.

“He understands he is in good shape professionally and personally when he retires, but as he gets asked about in the next two weeks, he wants to stay in the league.

“He still believes he has more to give. Ask the same question next year, then we might have a conversation, but right now all his intentions are to stay with the Chiefs.”

However, Kelce’s future in the NFL will still be questioned by many as he and his brother Jason Kelce continue to hint at potential retirement.

In June last year, Jason, who retired from playing in 2024, gave some wise words to his sibling.

He said on their New Heights podcast: “This is when you’re going to start knowing, whenever this time comes, and you need to walk away.

“[It’s] the fighting your body, like, you used to be able to do something you can’t do anymore. That’s when it starts to become hard.

“Bottom line is everyone knows when it’s time for them.”

Then in December, Kelce hinted that he may have played his last game in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio following a clash against the Cleveland Browns

The tight end admitted: “I don’t know if it’s the last time I’ll ever play in Cleveland, but it kinda felt like I was just giving it one last hurrah.”

And Jason then said on January 25 after the Chiefs set up a Super Bowl meeting with the Eagles that he wanted to support his brother as ‘I don’t know how many he has left’.

Kelce won’t give up on his career quickly though, saying at the start of the season that he’ll keep playing football ‘until the wheels come off’.

On top of this, his highly popular relationship with pop icon Taylor Swift is sure to be playing on his mind as the couple look to settle down.

Both of them are heading into their late 30s and there’s no doubt they will want to start a family and spend extra time together away from their busy careers.

Although Chiefs coach Andy Reid has tipped Kelce to become an NFL coach, meaning he may not stay out of the game for very long if he does retire.
