A lucky couple will be ‘married’ by none other than legendary ring announcer Michael Buffer prior to a Super League match.

The 80-year-old, who is synonymous with announcing major boxing events, jets into Wigan on February 13 and will oversee ceremonies outside the Brick Community Stadium ahead of the Wigan Warriors‘ match against the Leigh Leopards.

The Warriors will open up what has been dubbed as ‘the little Wigan chapel’, where loved-up fans can renew their vows in front of Buffer, although it will not be legally binding.

However, Buffer will ‘marry’ a Warriors-supporting couple before they make it official in Las Vegas ahead of the Warriors’ match in Sin City against Warrington Wolves on March 1.

Warriors chief executive Kris Radlinski was ecstatic to have pulled off the coup of having Buffer, who he dubbed as ‘the legendary Mr. Las Vegas himself’ in town next week.

“This is a moment to celebrate,” Radlinksi said.

“So let’s roll out the red carpet and show Michael the warmest Wigan and Super League welcome ever!

“Get ready, because this is going to be unforgettable!”

Speaking ahead of his trip to Wigan, Buffer said: “I can’t wait to make the journey across the Pond to the bright lights of Wigan to help Super League fans have the full Vegas experience.

“I might not be dressed as the King of Rock and Roll, but I can assure you that alongside Sky Sports, we are going to make this a Valentine’s Day to remember.

“It really is a match made in Vegas.”

Wigan will hope to continue the tremendous success they enjoyed in the 2024 campaign as they became just the fourth team to take out the modern quadruple.

The Brick Community Stadium will play host to Buffer’s bonkers wedding stunt

Matt Peet’s side finished top of the Super League table last term, two points ahead of second-placed Hull KR.

The two sides met once again in the final of the play-offs at Old Trafford and Wigan prevailed yet again, this time in a 9-2 nail-biter.

Wigan also triumphed over Warrington in the Challenge Cup by an 18-8 scoreline in front of over 64,000 fans at Wembley in June.

The Warriors even took home the World Club Challenge, beating Australian powerhouse Penrith Panthers 16-12 last February at the Brick Community Stadium.

Wigan will travel to Hull F.C on February 21 after their Super League opener against Leigh.

They will then make the journey over to Vegas alongside Warrington for the second annual rugby league showcase.

Wigan and Warrington are the only Super League representatives, while England’s Lionesses face the Australian Jillaroos in a Women’s Ashes match on March 1.

The remaining matches feature four National Rugby League (NRL) teams, as the Canberra Raiders take on the New Zealand Warriors while the defending champions Penrith face off against the Cronulla Sharks.
