It’s been five years since General Motors tasked Cadillac with leading the brand’s electrification efforts. Since then, it’s revealed several electric vehicles, introducing an assortment of stylish crossovers and one very expensive sedan. Even though interest in EVs is already faltering before most of the new models go on sale, a new report alleges Cadillac still has no plans to build the next-generation CT4 and CT5 replacements with internal combustion engines.
The rumor comes from GM Authority, citing “sources familiar with the matter,” which alleges Cadillac will replace the two sedans with a pair of electric vehicles. They won’t be direct replacements for the two models, however. According to the report, the new sedans will be similar in size to the CT5 and the already-discontinued CT6.
Sales for the CT4 and CT5 were down in 2024, while buyers made the electric Lyriq Cadillac’s second best-selling vehicle in its lineup last year, behind the Escalade. Despite the slowing adoption of EVs, the brand still expects battery-powered vehicles to comprise 30 to 35 percent of its sales in 2025, according to CNBC. The Escalade IQ, Vistiq, and entry-level Optiq all go on sale this year, expanding Cadillac’s EV portfolio to five, including the Celestiq.
The two new sedans will allegedly ride on what’s believed to be a more premium version of GM’s BEV3 architecture called BEV Prime. According to GM Authority, the vehicles will have a low hip point and will borrow styling cues from the Escala concept and the Celestiq, possibly adopting a sportback profile.
Motor1 has reached out to Cadillac to comment on the report. We’ll update the story if the brand responds.
