Fulham v Watford prediction

Fulham head into their Thursday night FA Cup third round clash with an eight-match unbeaten run still in tact following their 91st minute equaliser against Ipswich on Sunday afternoon to snatch a 2-2 draw in the Premier League.

Six of those eight matches in their current run have ended in draws though, and Marco Silva’s side will see this week’s match against Championship opposition as a great opportunity to get back in the winning column after winning only one of their last six matches.

The Cottagers currently sit happily in the top half of the Premier League table following the first round of league fixtures of the new year, presently occupying ninth place, three points off the top seven and with a three point cushion above the bottom half of the league.

The west London side have won their last five FA Cup third round clashes, and will be hoping this will be their first step towards the club’s first ever major trophy.

Watford make the short trip to the capital having fallen out of the Championship play-off positions in recent weeks after losing four of their last five matches, including each of their last three.

Tom Cleverley’s side occupied the top six after their Boxing Day victory over Portsmouth but three consecutive defeats since has seen the Hornets drop into ninth place in the second tier, though still within touching distance of the play-offs with just a three point gap.

The Hertfordshire side have won just one of their last 12 matches away from home, but take on a Fulham side winless in their last four home games and will take confidence in the knowledge that they are unbeaten in their last six matches against the Cottagers.

Both teams will likely make changes to their sides to rest players after a busy festive period in the league, which will probably take priority at this early stage of the FA Cup with Fulham having outside chance of European football next season and Watford in a play-off hunt.

The depth and quality of Fulham’s squad in comparison with Watford’s should see them book their spot in the fourth round draw, particularly in front of their home fans. The Cottagers’ unbeaten run combined with the Hornets’ losing run leads to believe a 2-0 home win is the most likely scoreline.

Fulham v Watford betting tips

Rodrygo Muniz started the season as Fulham’s first choice striker after a breathtaking second half of the season last year which saw the Brazilian bag nine goals from February onwards, but has lost his place in the starting XI to Raul Jimenez in recent months.

Muniz will likely start up front on Thursday night and will be desperate to plead his case to Silva for a starting spot in the Premier League once again.

Fulham’s eight match unbeaten run combined with Watford’s three match losing streak, two of which have come against sides the bottom half of the Championship, suggests a relatively comfortable Cottagers win should be on the cards.
