OpenFrazer Clarke reflects on horror jaw injury and gives update on return date with future Fabio Wardley trilogy eyed

Frazer Clarke is intending to return in spring this year, and wants to work his way back to a potential trilogy with Fabio Wardley.

Clarke first fought Wardley in an epic battle which ended in a draw last year, but his fortunes fared considerably worse when the pair met in a rematch in October.

The former Olympian was badly beaten in a devastating stoppage by Wardley, who burst out of the traps and inflicted serious damage to Clarke.

During the fight, Clarke was left badly injured and was pictured with dent on the side of his face, with justifiable concerns over his health from the boxing world.

He was able to get his jaw repaired after having late-night surgery in Saudi Arabia, with the injury diagnosed as a fractured bone in his upper jaw.

It was a damaging loss, with many fearing that it could be the end of the British heavyweight’s career after losing out on his chance to win the Lonsdale belt.

But he has now recovered, is back to health and is optimistic that he can fight his way back into the heavyweight mix.

Clarke opened up about his tough battle with the injury, and revealed exactly what his plan was to make a comeback in 2025.

“Yeah I’m all good now. It was difficult though, you don’t want it like that very often,” he said on talkSPORT’s Hawksbee & Jacobs.

“It was scary but luckily it wasn’t as bad as it looks. But the doctors looked after me and fixed me up a treat.

“I was gutted about the result but for it to end how it did was my main concern.

“As of tomorrow I’ll be cleared to fight again, I’ve been training but I can get into sparring from then.

“I can’t wait to get back in the ring. I’ve missed boxing, I’m like a kid at Christmas.

“Longest lay-off for a while, so I’m looking forward to hopefully April when I get back in the ring.”

Clarke now could face a significant rebuild to return to the same level of competition, but will take his first steps this year.

His rival, Wardley, is now on a different trajectory after the victory, and will be looking to use 2025 to take the necessary steps to reach world level.

Nonetheless, the pair produced entertaining ring affairs and it has seen their respective profiles boosted as a result.

The 33-year-old is highly unlikely to be granted a shot at redemption in the near future.

On a potential trilogy with Wardley, Clarke continued: “I think Fabio is on his own journey at the minute.

“He will be looking above me, which is understandable. But would I love that trilogy given the way I was defeated? Yes I would.

“People tell me they want to see us in the ring. He’s on his journey, I’m going to continue on mine.

“And hopefully that will lead us to another trilogy again, we have that thing where any time we are in a ring there will be fireworks.”
