Forget the V-8: Brabus Tune Pushes E53 Wagon to New Heights

Science and TechnologyAutoForget the V-8: Brabus Tune Pushes E53 Wagon to New Heights

Brabus has already gotten its hands on the new Mercedes-AMG E53. The tuner’s upgrade for the sedan and wagon increases the car’s output from 577 horsepower to 691 from the model’s turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six hybrid engine, outpacing the outgoing V-8-powered E63.

The stock engine alone makes 449 horsepower, but the addition of the Brabus’s PowerXtra B53 700 Performance control unit increases that to 557 horses. Torque also jumps from 413 to 487 pound-feet. The tuner leaves the hybrid drive unmodified for a total system output of 691 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. The electric motor makes 163 hp and 354 lb-ft.

Brabus claims the tuned E53 can sprint to 62 miles per hour in 3.6 seconds, shaving 0.2 seconds off the stock car’s time. Top speed remains unchanged at 174 miles per hour.

Brabus also offers several styling upgrades for the model, including a functional front spoiler that minimizes front axle lift, carbon trim with matte and gloss finishes, and five Platinum Edition wheel designs. At the back, a Brabus rear diffuser accommodates the four 3.5-inch black tailpipes poking through. Customers can also add a spoiler from the tuner that increases downforce at higher speeds.

Inside, customers can add an assortment of trim options from the tuner, like stainless steel door sills, Brabus pedals in carbon or aluminum, and unique upholstery. The aftermarket specialist can create a range of interior styles with various colors, materials, fabrics, and patterns.

Mercedes only just revealed the new E53 last month. It’s expected to go on sale in the US before the end of the year, and to our suprise, the automaker will sell it in America as a wagon as well as a sedan. If you don’t like the six-cylinder’s output, you can always buy more power with an aftermarket upgrade like this.
