Cristiano Ronaldo’s landmark appearance ends in disaster as Al Nassr striker flops on big occasion

Cristiano Ronaldo’s 100th appearance in an Al Nassr shirt ended in defeat for the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star.

Marking a century of appearances for the Saudi Pro League outfit, Ronaldo was unable to mark the occasion with a goal as Al Orobah emerged as 2-1 victors on Friday night.

Ronaldo has had plenty to shout about across these 100 games, though.

The former United star has scored 89 goals and 19 assists for the club in the Middle East since he made the big money move in 2023.

Despite his sharp shooting, it’s not the first time Ronaldo has failed to score on a landmark appearance.

In fact, he didn’t score on his 100th appearance for United, Real Madrid or for Portugal’s national team.

At Juventus however, he netted two penalties to mark the 100th match in black and white.

So far this season, Ronaldo has scored an impressive 25 times in all competitions, with 17 coming in the Saudi Pro League.

The veteran had been beginning to forge a formidable partnership alongside former Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran – who joined him at the club in January.

Duran has scored four goals in as many Saudi top-flight games for the side.

But like Ronaldo, he didn’t have his shooting boots on against Al Orobah.

Omar Al Somah opened the scoring for the hosts, before Nawaf Boushal equalised for the visitors.

Al Orobah then made Al Nassr pay for their repeated missed as Johan Gudmundsson scored the eventual winner in the 65th minute.

The defeat leaves Al Nassr third in the Saudi Pro League table, behind Al Hilal and Al Ittihad.

It’s now two losses from their last three games to leave them trailing Karim Benzema’s Al Ittihad by nine points.

The loss came on the same evening that former Brentford star Ivan Toney scored a hat-trick to earn his side Al Ahli a victory over Neymar‘s former side Al Hilal.

Attention for Ronaldo and his teammates will now turn towards their AFC Champions League last-16 first leg tie against Esteghal FC.

The Iranian outfit welcome Al Nassr to Tehran on Monday.
