Brittany Mahomes will always defend her husband.
To the astonishment of many, Patrick Mahomes is often underrated when it comes to the NFL’s top 100 rankings – an annual list voted on by the players themselves – and in 2020 he shockingly did not make the top three.
Both Patrick and Brittany don’t forget things like that.
Mahomes will appear in his fifth Super Bowl when the Kansas City Chiefs go to New Orleans to play the Philadelphia Eagles and the quarterback will look to make history as the Chiefs chase an unprecedented three-peat.
Another bonus of winning the championship on Sunday will be that he might actually get ranked higher in the NFL‘s top 100 player rankings list later this year.
In 2020, he was fourth and his wife – and his fans – took to social media to make their feelings clear.
“Let them keeping ranking him #4 in the league. We love it,” she said in reply to a post about Mahomes’ touchdowns, seemingly suggesting his performances warranted a higher place.
Analyst Aly Trost Martin criticised those who think Mahomes even cares about this ranking given his success and trappings that come with it, joking he is ‘looking at his new Ferrari and [Super Bowl] ring.’
Brittany had one word in response to this, reposting it on X with the word “Truth.”
Mahomes can at least take solace from the fact that ESPN’s list which surveys executives, coaches and scouts all place him as the No.1 player in the NFL.
Furthermore, rankings become pretty irrelevant when you are charging towards a third consecutive Super Bowl, as his greatness becomes evidenced in his trophies.
The 29-year-old is already a three-time Super Bowl champion, three-time Super Bowl MVP, two-time NFL MVP, NFL Offensive Player of the Year, two-time first-team All-Pro and six-time Pro Bowler just to highlight a few things.
And in 2020 when he was the fourth best player, according to his peers, Mahomes secured his financial future by signing a 10-year $450 million deal with the Chiefs.
When the 2024 rankings put the QB at fourth again, social media was almost unanimously in agreement that Mahomes cannot be ranked as low.
Former offensive linesman Geoff Schwartz trashed the credibility of the list when it was revealed.
“I typically refrain from commenting on the top 100 rankings because they aren’t done in any serious fashion,” Schwartz posted on X.
The former Panther went on to suggest players don’t vote honestly and every player who ranked him fourth would want him on their team.
Back the, the quarterback missed out on the podium with Christian McCaffery, Lamar Jackson, and Tyreek Hill all voted as better players.
This year, Saquon Barkley, Jackson again and Jalen Hurts might have something to say.
