Bristol City v Wolves prediction
Wolves make the trip to Championship side Bristol City on Saturday lunchtime looking to get back to winning ways after their three match unbeaten run came to an end with a 3-0 home defeat by Nottingham Forest on Monday night.
The loss against Forest was Vitor Pereira’s first taste of defeat since being announced as Gary O’Neil’s successor as Wolves manager a week before Christmas.
The Portuguese had impressed in his first three games in charge of the West Midlands, taking over a side 19th in the Premier League table having lost their last four matches, beating Leicester and Manchester United and drawing with Tottenham.
The recent picking up of points has seen Wolves climb out of the relegation zone in the Premier League, though with only goal difference separating themselves in 17th from Ipswich in 18th.
Championship side Bristol City head into the weekend in a rich vein of form having picked up 10 points from their last four matches which has seen them climb to within three points of the play-off positions.
The Robins are the second tier’s joint-longest serving club having secured promotion from League One in 2015, and have finished in mid table every season since, so will be hopeful this may be the year they can mount a top six push.
Liam Manning’s side are currently eighth in the Championship table and their 1-0 win over Derby on Saturday afternoon was their third home win in a row, all of which have come without conceding.
Bristol City will fancy their chances at an FA Cup upset on the weekend, with fond memories fresh from knocking out West Ham at this stage of the competition last season, and the fans will be vociferous in urging their side on against a struggling Wolves team.
I think a 1-1 draw seems the most likely scoreline, but with no replays and the tie needing to be decided on the day, I imagine Wolves‘ Premier League quality should shine through and I can see them booking their spot in the hat with an extra time winner.
Bristol City v Wolves betting tips
Bristol City’s strong recent run, particularly with three consecutive wins and clean sheets at Ashton Gate, should make for good viewing against a Wolves side struggling in the Premier League as of late.
Pereira appears to have steered the ship towards safety following his appointment though and his side’s quality should shine through, albeit potentially in extra time.
Jacob Strand Larsen is the visitors’ top goal scorer available for selection on Saturday after Matheus Cunha’s suspension. The on loan striker will be looking to add to his seven goals of the season having bagged in their last away outing against Tottenham.
