Brighton & Hove Albion vs Brentford predictions

Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford are two of the smartest clubs in English football.

Their current owners, Tony Bloom and Matthew Benham, assumed control when Brighton and Brentford were in League One. They are now Premier League staples, with both teams continuing to punch above their weight.

Bloom is a poker player and sports bettor. Benham also made his money in the betting industry. Both owners have put data at the heart of their operations at Brighton and Brentford.

It is well known that they do not get on, adding an element of spice to this fixture. Bloom was Benham’s boss at Premier Bet in the first few years of the 21st century, but their relationship deteriorated and Benham left to set up his own company, Smartodds, in 2004.

It is said the pair have not spoken since. Deep down, though, Bloom and Benham must admire the work the other has done in football.

Brighton are targeting a return to Europe this term. They were quick out of the blocks under Fabian Hurzeler, who was appointed as Roberto De Zerbi’s replacement in the summer. At the end of November they were fourth in the standings.

A dip in form followed, with Brighton now on a five-game winless streak. Frustratingly for the Seagulls, this has not been a particularly difficult stretch on paper. But draws with Southampton, Leicester City and West Ham United, as well as defeats by Fulham and arch-rivals Crystal Palace, have seen them slide down into mid-table.

Brentford are two points adrift of Brighton ahead of their head-to-head clash, which means they would go above their opponents with a win on the south coast.

Thomas Frank’s side suffered their first home loss of the campaign last time out, as Nottingham Forest left the Gtech Community Stadium with a 2-0 win.

Brentford’s away record is abysmal, so they will be looking to put that right on Friday. Their previous eight trips to opposition grounds have yielded a single point, so that will give Brighton some confidence.

Neither of these teams has to worry about relegation, but we do not yet know if either is capable of finishing in the top eight. Bloom and Benham will be particularly keen to see their respective team emerge triumphant in this one.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Brentford betting tips

Brighton & Hove Albion welcome Brentford to the Amex Stadium for this post-Christmas fixture.

Draw

There has been much talk about the discrepancy between Brentford’s results at home and away, but it is important to consider the teams they have played so far.

A return of one point from a possible 24 is undoubtedly poor, but the Bees have already had to go to Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Chelsea.

At home, meanwhile, they have played the teams currently ranked 14th, 15th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th.

Brentford are bound to start picking up a few positive results on their travels soon – and this is a good opportunity to start that process.

Brighton have struggled in games they are expected to win of late. This could be another frustrating evening for Hurzeler’s side.

⚽ Go for a draw at 16/5 with Midnite ⚽

Brentford to score first

Brighton tend to start games quicker on the road than they do at home. They have opened the scoring in seven of their away games so far, while the equivalent figure at the Amex is three.

In fact, Brighton have conceded the first goal at home more often than they have scored it.

Given their disappointing run of form, the Amex could be edgier than usual here, particularly as Brentford are adept at making life difficult for their opponents.

The Bees are renowned for their ability to strike early. They have drawn first blood nine times in 2024/25 and lead the way for goals in the first 10 minutes.

Do not be surprised if the first goal of Friday’s contest goes to the visitors.

Joao Pedro to score any time

Brighton have an abundance of attacking talent, but Joao Pedro is their main man in the final third.

Danny Welbeck has scored more goals than the Brazilian and the evergreen 34-year-old’s contributions should not be underestimated.

But because of his ability to play either right up front or in a withdrawn role, Joao Pedro is pretty much a guaranteed starter when fit.

The former Watford man has been linked with a move away from the Amex, with several bigger clubs reportedly considering a swoop next summer.

For now he remains a Brighton player and we like his chances of getting on the scoresheet for the fifth time this season on Friday.
