Brighton & Hove Albion vs Arsenal predictions
Arsenal suffered an early scare on New Year’s Day, as Bryan Mbeumo put Brentford 1-0 up in the first Premier League game of 2025.
Crucially, though, they did not panic after their opponents drew first blood. Gabriel Jesus restored parity with a close-range header, before second-half strikes from Mikel Merino and Gabriel Martinelli took the game away from the Bees.
It was vital that Arsenal came out on top at the Gtech Community Stadium. Had they not, Liverpool would have become even stronger favourites for the title. As it is, Arsenal remain in the race for now.
Six points separate the Gunners from top spot as things stand, although they have played one more game than leaders Liverpool. Arsenal must pray the Reds slip up while ensuring they remain consistent themselves. It is a tall order.
Indeed, Mikel Arteta’s team have given themselves a lot to do. They are still cursing themselves for dropping points against the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion (the first meeting was back in August), Bournemouth and Everton.
Yet there is no use in dwelling on those results. Even this excellent Liverpool team will struggle to keep up the relentless pace they are currently setting, so Arsenal must not give up with half of the campaign remaining. There is still a long way to go in 2024/25.
There were plenty of positive signs against Brentford. Two of Arsenal’s three goals came from open play, with Merino’s strike the result of a set-piece. The Gunners are still the most prolific side in the division from dead-ball situations.
Even with Bukayo Saka out injured, Arsenal created plenty of chances and did a good job of shutting out Brentford, with the exception of Mbeumo’s early goal.
It was a much-needed victory away from home too, and Arsenal need another one this weekend. The Gunners were struggling on the road a couple of months back, collecting just one point from trips to Bournemouth, Newcastle United and Chelsea. Now they have won three of their last four at opposition grounds.
Can Brighton buck the trend in Saturday’s late kick-off, or will Arsenal be able to keep the pressure up on Liverpool with another win?
Brighton & Hove Albion vs Arsenal betting tips
Arsenal head to the south coast to take on Brighton & Hove Albion this weekend.
Arsenal to win
Brighton picked up a creditable 2-2 draw with Aston Villa in their last outing. In isolation that was a good result, but Fabian Hurzeler’s side are now on a seven-game winless streak.
Frustratingly, the fixture list during that period was not unduly kind. Arsenal will be the first opponent from the current top seven that Brighton have faced since November.

Perhaps the Seagulls will raise their game against the Gunners. They may actually prefer to face a team that will not sit deep nor allow them the lion’s share of possession.
But even without Saka, Arsenal should have enough about them to come out on top at the Amex Stadium.

Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals
Brighton’s attack has not been firing on all cylinders of late. Before the Aston Villa game, the Seagulls had scored more than one goal in only one of their previous six top-flight encounters.
Having said that, Brighton usually manage to find the back of the net at least once. They have done exactly that in all but two of their 19 matches this term. Only Liverpool have a better record in that regard.
Moreover, both teams have scored in 15 of Brighton’s games up to now, a Premier League high alongside Brentford.
Arsenal’s backline, ably marshalled by William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, does not give much away.
On this occasion, though, we reckon there will be goals at both ends and at least three in total.

Gabriel Jesus to score or assist
It looked like Jesus’ Arsenal career was coming to an end, but the Brazil international has made himself a starter again.
Five goals in two December games against Crystal Palace brought Jesus back in from the cold. He found the net again in the victory over Brentford and will surely be retained in the starting XI this weekend.
Jesus has never been the most deadly of finishers, but he did show a poacher’s instinct when he nodded home on New Year’s Day.
The former Manchester City man also likes to get involved in the build-up and lay on chances for others.
One way or another, we fancy Jesus to have a direct hand in an Arsenal goal against Brighton.
