Brentford vs Tottenham Hotspur predictions

After a few stuttering performances over the holiday period, Brentford have consolidated with two wins and a draw in their last four Premier League matches.

You might think that seven points is nothing too special, and that would be fair enough. But the dropped points came in a 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Matchday 21 and a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool on Matchday 22.

The Bees returned to winning ways last Sunday, defeating Crystal Palace 2-1 at Selhurst Park with goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Kevin Schade. The win on the road was the second in a month for Thomas Frank’s team, after they also defeated Southampton 5-0 at the beginning of January.

Brentford’s new improved away form was much needed. Ahead of thrashing Southampton, the Bees had not won in nine road trips, drawing two and losing seven. It was relegation form away from home.

Things are very different on their own patch. The Bees have won seven, drawn two and lost three. Two of the defeats have come recently, with Arsenal winning 3-1 at the Gtech on New Year’s Day, and the loss to Liverpool a couple of weeks ago.

The Bees’ only other defeat at home was on Matchday 17, when away-day specialists Nottingham Forest did a number on Frank’s team with a 2-0 win.

Brentford’s recent form has seen them consolidate in mid-table. They began the weekend in 11th place with 31 points from 23 matches.

What can we say about Spurs that hasn’t already been said before?

At the beginning of Matchday 24, Spurs sat 15th in the table on 24 points, just one place and point above relegation-threatened Everton.

Pundits and fans say that Spurs are too good to go down. And that’s probably true. But at the moment, they are only too good because they are better than Wolves, Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton.

In fairness to Spurs and Ange Postecoglou, they are in the middle of an injury crisis and a fixture pile up.

Postecoglou has rightly pointed out that most teams would struggle in Spurs’ position, and when they get all their players back, the Lilywhites will have a good squad of players to pick from.

He did neatly sidestep speaking about why they have such an injury crisis at the club!

It is also true that the fixture pile-up is affecting Spurs’ season. They are still in four competitions. As well as having Premier League commitments, they are in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup, the 4th Round of the FA Cup and the Round of 16 of the Europa League.

A club with a fit squad of players would struggle with that schedule, never mind one with a playing staff down to the bare bones.

But Spurs have just one win in their last 11 Premier League matches, and have picked up just five points from 33. Even with an injury crisis, that’s hard to justify.

Brentford vs Tottenham Hotspur betting tips

The Bees are favourites to beat Spurs in their Matchday 24 London derby. You can see if we agree with the bookies in our Brentford vs Spurs betting tips below:

Brentford to win

Tottenham warmed up for the London derby with a 3-0 win over IF Elfsborg in the Europa League on Thursday. The win was the Lilywhite’s second in a row in the competition.

Brentford have had the whole week to prepare for the match. Furthermore, with seven points from their last four matches, they are in decent form.

Spurs have picked up just one point from their previous seven Premier League matches. They will turn the corner soon. But we have to go with a win for the Bees on current form.

⚽ Back Brentford to beat Spurs at 6/5 with SBK ⚽

Bryan Mbeumo to have 3+ shots

Bryan Mbeumo is Brentford’s go-to man for a goal this season.

The Frenchman has scored 14 goals in 23 Premier League matches, also chipping in with three assists.

Spurs are an open team who give up a lot of chances.

They conceded 12 shots at home to Leicester City last Sunday and 12 against Everton in their previous Premier League outing. And this is against struggling teams.

Hoffenheim had 22 attempts on Tottenham’s goal on Matchday 7 of the Europa League. While on Thursday, Elfsborg managed just four. But they are fifth in the Swedish Allsvenskan.

Mbeumo is 11/10 to score anytime and 8/11 to score or assist. He managed three attempts against Palace on the road last weekend. We can see matching that effort again when his Brentford team take on Spurs.

⚽ Back Bryan Mbeumo to have three or more efforts at goal at 19/20 with Midnite ⚽

Over 2.5 goals and both teams to score

There isn’t much value in the goals market for matches involving Spurs. Over 2.5 goals is 3/10, and both teams to score is 1/3.

Combining both bets gives us 1/2.

Both teams have scored with over 2.5 goals in three of Brentford’s last five matches and seven of their last 11 in the Premier League.

There have been over 2.5 goals with both teams scoring in the last five Premier League matches involving Tottenham. Furthermore, this bet would have won in seven of the last nine league matches involving Postecoglou’s team.

Over 3.5 goals is an option at 4/5. But even that looks a touch short. And we simply can’t back unders in matches involving Tottenham. They only know one way to play.

⚽ Over 2.5 goals and yes in both teams to score at 1/2 with bet365 ⚽
